i finally got my tranny bolted up. i measured the distance between the flexplate and the stall pads and i came up with .1875. i realize this is borderline between shimming or not shimming. what does everyone suggest?

 

Remember that it should not be tighter than 1/16 of an inch and no more than 3/16. I personally like to see 1/8 so I personally would find some washers. Vince

 

.080" - .125" is the ideal area to be. If you have to add shims to get it to these clearances, the three shims you choose, "must be identical" in thickness, any variance will offset the torque converter alignment. With .187", I would add three .070" machined washers. This will bring it down to .117". Again, whatever thickness washers you choose, they must all be the same in thickness.

 

If your going to shim with flat washers, please use Grade 8 washers.
