TH350 overheating ?
TH350 overheating ? I just swapped out the 4L60E in my GTO with a TH350. The car has a rear mount turbo and puts down 640 at the wheels and that is why I made the swap. The new trans is from one of the sponsors and I really do not want to get into a bashing contest. Today I took the car out for the first time since the install on a serious drive going to a show up the turnpike. I had gone about 50 miles and was noticing the trans temperature rising and holding steady around 245. There is a large cooler with a fan on the trans. My concern, because this trans does not have overdrive the engine was turning about 3,300 rpm running at 60 mph. Could this continuous running at this speed cause this problem. At the point I pulled over the torque converter was locked up and would not slip causing the engine to stall like a stick car if it stopped moving in drive. Once the car cooled down it seemed to be okay but I just pulled it up my trailer I did not drive yet. Any thought on this? Oil temperature seemed way too high. It has a mutidisk Vig 4,000 stall converter which did not seem be excessively slipping at any time.
I am assuming your running a TH350C trans since you have lockup?As for trans temps the predominate place for heat to be created is in the converter not the trans in fact with out dyno test if you start and keep the converter in lockup its takes a log time for the trans to get warm even with a cooler bypass. Now with a stall that high and no lockup driving you would make alotta heat really fast
I understand the cooler has a fan but where is it mounted ?
The lockup being on after the trans got really hot could be a lockup solenoid sticking due to heat or a valve sticking for the same reason
