Default Shifter cable problems

Today I broke my second shifter linkage cable in 3 months. Is there anything that could be causing me to break them? I'm not rough with it when going between park, drive, etc.

I have a 1999 A4 with a Performabuilt Level 2 4L60E if that makes any difference.

Not many answers could be and alignment issue with the cable or bracket . I would just look at anything that might put the cable at and awkward angle

I would disconnect the cable from both the trans and the shifter inside the car. How do the shifter and the linkage at the trans move? You might find your issue here. Also is the cable being routed the exact same way as it did from the factory? It might be getting bound up if it is not run correctly or bent to tight to get to where it needs to be in order to work. Causing it to bind. Also is the cable close to your exhaust? It could be getting melted if in fact it is. If this is the case I would get some exhaust wrap to help control the heat. Just a few ideas. Let us know what you find. Vince
