Default Transgo and B&M

Ok talked with a bunch a people. I recently got a DTC code p0751 on my 2000 A4 Transam. Several people have mentioned that it is common to have selenoid sticks. So I found the selenoid part numbers and picked them up from my local dealership. While I was at it I picked up a transgo shift kit and a B&M supercooler. I read alot about the tranny coolers in this forum. My question is with the transgo I know there are 3 settings, I still have the stock converter and have been told that I shouldnt look to install a new converter mainly because of my 3.73 gears. I plan on doing the install of the transgo and the cooler this weekend. Any ideas what to set the transgo to for a stock A4 setup?

Thanks,

Mike

Who told you you shouldn't install a new torque converter because of your gears? Why not?

Guy from transmission exhange. Basically said that unless I put a cam that doesnt idle smooth until 2000-2500 in. He also said that 1998+ stock converters changed alot and most shops wouldnt touch a 2000 stock converter. His main point about the gears was traction. Could I benefit from a mild torque converter? I plan on doing heads, headers, and cam this winter.

Thanks,

Mike

You will definitely benefit from a converter especially with the 3.73 gears. If I where you and your going to do heads/cam/headers I would go with a milder 3000-3200 if you have to drive alot on the street. If you dont drive her alot on the street then go bigger but 3000-3200 should be fine with what you have now!!

Your tranny guy is off base. I'd get a 3300 - 3800 stall with a low STR. A SY3500 would be great if you're traction limited.

I say go for the converter. I just installed a TCS 3800 with a 2.5 str and couldn't be happier. It is very manageable on the street, both driveability and traction wise.
