What would cause...
What would cause... Hey guys, i bought my car with a bad transmission for cheap recently and i had a question for some of the experts that tend to lurk around this forum.
My z28 has roughly 107k, when i put the transmission into D the car will not move, when i put it into d, it still wont move, but with a slight delay if i put it into 2 or 1 it ***** nice and firmly into the first two gears. as i drive along i have no problem getting into any gear as long as i up shift it manually from 2 to d then D.
On top of this whenever i try to get the transmission to up shift it will just rev freely and not engage yet none of the gears slip.
When i first got the car home and started flushing out all the old fluids and doing all the basic maintenance i changed the trans filter and fluid and to no surprise it was contaminated and came out like a very nasty looking strawberry shake. I was just curious to see what potential copenant failures could have caused this condition. It won't slip in gears BUT it just refuses to shift without a fuss.

sounds like the input sprag and or forward clutch has failed

Input sprag or the forward clutch would be my guess as well. If your fluid looks like a milkshake then I suspect that either water or coolant has found it's way into your fluid. When you install a new trans you should make sure to bypass the radiator and make sure to flush your lines out very well. Vince
The contamination source being the radiator is my guess too, i'm gonna bypass it and put a BIG cooler and new lines just to be extra safe. Thanks for the input, hopefully soon i'll be pulling it out and rebuilding it myself just for academic purposes.
