Default 3-4 Clutches Keep Burning up...........????

I am going through alot of problems with my car right now. I was in the process of a cam swap in my car so i sent out my PCM for mail tune with a vendor for LS1's. I didn't get them info on shift points...so, they weren't right at WOT runs. After a few mishaps with 7K rev hits with no shift for a while....my 3-4 clutches burnt up. I sent PCM back to them and requested stock program back in it. Put my HPP3 back on it with my shift settings that worked for ovver 1 1/2 years. Got my new 3-4 clutches in.....and drove the car 2 days before they burned up again.

Now, the first time we replaced them....we didn't disassemble the tranny totally and clean. We jsut replaced and cleaned what we came in contact with for the 3-4 clutch replacement. This time.....we have it totally apart and have found NOTHING that woudl show signs of why this has happened again...other than alot of clutch material in the tranny. Valve body had alot as did most of the tranny. Now all is cleaned...and nothing hard part wise is showing a reason for the burned up clutches. Only other suspect left is the pump.

My tranny guy feels like the solenoids are good since i had the dealer check it before the tranny was removed...and there were no codes and the car would drive all day long 1-2 gear....just nothign after that due to burned up clutches. My Vig 3200 was sent out to be inspected.....all is good there also.

I don't know if i should just assume the clutch material contaminated it to much...of maybe just the pump is messing up and not giving enough line pressure....either way.....i am stumped as is my tranny guy.

Any ideas on what could cause this??????

There's a LOT of things that contribute to high gear clutch failure unfortunately.. It's the hardest clutch to control properly, with that insanely long fluid path, possible leaks past the sealing rings in the turbine shaft, filling the accumulator, AND having to push off the 2nd gear servo. Just go through and blueprint the whole transmission: deburr the valve body and pump shells, make sure the valve bores aren't burred and/or worn, verify clutch pack stackups and apply clearance, ditch the screens in the valve body, clean the screen in the pump, check the high gear orifice cup in the drum, etc. Once you put it back together, it'd be a good idea to put a gauge on the pressure tap and see what's happening on the 2-3 shift. If you're seeing an excessive line pressure cutback, time to go back in and find out why.

Low Pressure! Check force motor and pressure regulator valve. Use a pressure gauge to check the pressure.
