Default Tranny cooler ?

I am about to install a new tranny cooler on my car after the first one was installed seemingly wrong by whoever did it. Ok do i run the lines through the radiator and then the tranny cooler, or is there a better way. If so which line are the feed and return lines.

The bottom line to the radiator is the pressure and the top is the return. Route the cooler inline from the return fitting of the radiator cooler. It will cool the ATF even further than the radiator does.

I suggest bypassing the radiator completely. It will "cool" the fluid to the water temperature, which is generally 200 degrees or more. My trans temps run around the 160-180 range. Cooler is better.

The reason I didn't bypass my radiator is in the winter months, the radiator actually acts as a heater to the trans helping warm it up quicker to operating temps. It just acts as a good "regulator" with the cooling system's thermostat to warm up the trans quicker. JMO

I agree it acts as a heater, which was also my point in bypassing it. Since I live in Indiana, I let the car warm up in the -20 degree weather before driving it. And it still runs nice and cool in all weather. JMHO.

Yes. A cooler will help it live longer, even a stock one. Cheap insurance, IMO.

Well, I think you know what I meant... acts as a heater in the winter, and it cools the in summertime. Don't kid yourself, the radiator is cooling some initially before it hits the B&M 24K. I searched this before doing mine and it seemed that most were retaining the stock cooler so it knocks down some of the heat before seeing the external cooler. It is really up to the individual. I saw it as an asset so I left it...

Yes, I understand what you meant. I don't agree, but that does not mean that either of us is wrong. It merely means that our opinion differs.

you will get the best cooling if you have the fluid run through the radiator then threw the cooler unless you got a huge cooler. The radiator will suck out 15* or more before it gets to the cooler which will then take more heat out. I usually run in the 140-160 range this way, summer included.

I ran mine solo. I prbly burned up 4 transmissons before the cooler. The last one has lasted well over a year.

I too say bypass the radiator. The radiator does help bring the temps up to operating temperature but for it to be an issue it would have to be probably -20 degrees all winter long. Just bypass the radiator and run the cooler.
