ENJOY THE DRIVE WITH THE BLOOMINGTON GOLD® GOLDTOUR®
Annual Corvette Show Features Road Trip, Car Auction, Swap Meet and More
NORMAL, Ill. – See and be seen with fellow Corvette enthusiasts during the annual Bloomington Gold® GoldTour – a 35-mile road trip through rural Kane County, Illinois, on Saturday, June 27, 2009.
The GoldTour is a highlight of the four-day Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA's show, which takes place June 25-28, 2009, at Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill. Featuring more than 600 Corvettes ranging from first-generation 1953s to the latest C6 masterpieces, the GoldTour takes Corvette owners on a loop from the Kane County Judicial Center through the rural roads and countryside.
“This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Bloomington Gold GoldTour, where every era of Corvette takes to the road for a camaraderie-filled drive through the countryside,” said David Burroughs, CEO, Bloomington Gold. “During a 7-mile stretch of the GoldTour drive, Corvette owners pass one another as they circle back to the starting point, high-fiving to other drivers on the tour while passers-by from nearby towns wave from the sidewalks.”
Bloomington Gold started the GoldTour as the Road Tour in 1984, attracting more than 500 Corvettes to travel on the Illinois highways and back roads. The event set the 1994 Guinness World Record with a total of 2,223 Corvettes on a single road tour.
The 2009 GoldTour is led by this year’s Grand Marshals – the 50-year-old 1959 Corvette – followed by the Silver Salute 1984 Corvettes. The driving event is free to any Corvette owner who attends the Bloomington Gold Corvette Show. No pre-registration is necessary and volunteers from the Fox Valley Corvette Club stage the cars and direct traffic. Staging begins at 5 p.m. and the tour launches at 6 p.m.
“Bloomington Gold has not only become the longest running collector car show in the world, but its first-rate driving event allows the Corvette hobbyist and the long-time collector alike to get out and enjoy their cars,” added Burroughs.
With events to satisfy everyone’s wishes, Bloomington Gold delivers the most diverse Corvette show to enthusiasts around the country. In addition to world-class judging and the GoldTour driving experience, the show offers the largest selection of C4, C5 and C6 Corvettes on sale in the world; a parts swap meet; educational events and seminars; and music and video presentations.
Bloomington Gold®, America’s Original Corvette Show since 1973, is known world-wide for leadership in Corvette preservation and authenticity. Its revolutionary judging systems – Gold Certification®, SURVIVOR® and BENCHMARK® – set the standard by which collectors, auctions, magazines and parts manufacturers compare all other Corvettes. However, it has also become known for the incredible beauty of thousands of Corvettes parked on the impeccable greens of Pheasant Run Golf Course. Rare parts, world class judging, education and hundreds of Corvettes for sale or auction make this America’s most unique and diverse automotive event.
