Bit the bullet and ordered Kooks 1 7/8

Got a sick deal on them and just wanted to see if you guys had any tips for the install. Im at a toss up whether to spend the extra 100 bucks for studs. I will be using a two post lift and have access to any tool imagineable(thanks to gf's father auto repair shop)

Also I have heard from many people to use new GM factory gaskets instead of the Kooks, are most of you doing this or are the Kooks gaskets good?

Also read somewhere that the Kooks connectors dont come with clamps to connect the connectors to the factory exhaust? I ordered catted pipes and will be connecting it to the factory catback in front of the stock resonator.

Thanks guys, looking forward to seeing if long tubes live up to the hype in the LSX world.

BTW decided to do Kooks because Pacesetters coated with custom connectors was 700 shipped, plus id have to have the cats cut and welded in.

I'm envious! What did you pay and from where? You can PM if you wish.

Good luck man, Congrats!

VeryWhiteDevil 03-31-2010 08:43 AM

good choice. I run the 1 7/8 jethot and still think it is the best mod.

SoJersey05V 03-31-2010 08:49 AM

I just ordered mine but am awaiting to see if the deal gets sweeter. Yes all please chime in on the gaskets so I know whether to get a set of those or not.

DoctorNick 03-31-2010 09:08 AM

Very nice, who did you order from?

raven154 03-31-2010 09:33 AM

GM gaskets here with no complaints. I also have the studs and again, no complaints. The only thing I has a problem with is clearnce on the steering shaft. I heard one guy ground his steering shaft down for clearnce. Personally, I flattened the primary just slightly right there. I'd rather not grind on things that may impact my life lol

I want to hear what it sounds like with the muffler delete, stock resonator and LT's. I am up in the air over LT's. My last 2 cars have been ungodly loud. Plus my 7 month old son will be in the car occasionally.

Are you planning FI in the future? Just curious as to why 1-7/8 instead of 1-3/4.

NeverSatisfied02 03-31-2010 12:02 PM

Congrats man! Im jealous but i might be biting the bullet soon myself! 1 7/8's is the way to go imo... room to grow...

whisler151 03-31-2010 12:08 PM

I re-used stock gaskets and they work perfectly.

That V will sound good! You cant go wrong with Kooks.

NEED MO POWA! 03-31-2010 12:31 PM

As already mentioned you may need to flatten a little the primaries that hit the steering shaft. My kooks 1 7/8 would rub on the steering shaft, I could feel it in the steering wheel vibrating. Oh yeah and reuse the stock gaskets.

doesnt everyone haha, I plan on heads/cam/FAST with the spray. Race proven motorsports my tuner said to go with 1 7/8 too. For the money id rather be prepared for the future then have to pay that bill again, even if it costs me a little torque or horsepower now.

BTW i gotta run so ill pm about the purchase tonight when i get to work at 1030, sojersey may be able to help if you want it faster.

M_T_Pockets 03-31-2010 07:15 PM

So u got me interested, can you pm me with price? I really want them lol.

1bad2k 04-01-2010 02:47 AM

Sweet deal man. I picked up a used set of some 1 7/8" off here that literally looked brand new. I had them polished ceramic coated inside/out. They are the catted connectors too. I am waiting for some time to install em so post up your results if you get them in and installed soon. I'm anxious to see what they do. :D

itsslow98 04-01-2010 02:56 AM

yea me too, looking at juiced group purchase Kooks is back ordered but Ill call the vendor i bought them from to see(i hope not)....they will be on a day or two after i get them. Anxious to here how it sounds with cats, stock resonator, and no mufflers.....if its too loud which i bet it is....ill throw some magnapacks(14416s) on it. Im over loud loud cars.

1bad2k 04-01-2010 03:09 AM

Yeah I told myself that I'm not gonna let this car be taken too far like I do all the others. I want to keep it for a while lol. Which is exactly why I did a corsa catback and chose to have catted connectors. I bet your car will sound tits but you'll end up throwing the magnaflows on I bet lol

itsslow98 04-01-2010 03:59 AM

yea ill leave them off for a week and then throw them on....enjoy it for a little while but the V isnt a car I want to sound like my 98 SS with no cats or muffler. That is until I throw a cam in, then i might as well make her loud lol

maxspeed96ct 04-01-2010 05:14 AM

I ended up finding a nice set of gaskets at my local napa. Good material and they had hooks at the corner bolts which made them easy to slide in.

Those that have installed headers know what im talking about.

stock studs are fine here aswell.

itsslow98 04-02-2010 12:03 AM

sounds good, hope to have them on next week if they get here. then tune the 10th hoping for over 450 with 100 shot and nano. id be real happy with 460 or so. not bad for the money.

Lee-AnnMarie 04-06-2010 01:47 PM

Allen, what did you end up paying? Good luck with the install! Just be patient! It's soooo worth it :D
