Not needed.
However a wideband O2 allows you to tune the carb with great precision. If you are planning an exhaust it can't hurt to have an O2 bung welded in near one of the collectors. They come with plugs if you are not running a sensor.
You can also use a standard, non-wideband O2 sensor and a voltmeter to help tune. This site tells you how

Well the problem lies with wet exhaust, so it's good news I don't need it, I might just check into welding a bung in for initial tuning( headers dry) then I can plug it and turn the water injection on
