You have to run it to a pressurized source, i run mine to a T fitting in the heater hose.

How about this:

"GM's pink colored Dex Cool coolant has been used since the late 90s. It is sensitive to air pockets and has been known to congeal or turn gelatinous if the cooling system runs low on antifreeze/coolant. The LS1 designers knew these engines would be sensitive to air in the coolant system, so they devised a way to evacuate air from the block with the 1/4 inch steam ports or vents. There are four, two at the back of the block and two at the front. Because these engines are almost always installed at an angle, the rear two are often sealed or blocked, but the front two go to a high point in the cooling system, NOT to an unpressurized reservoir."

How 'bout dem apples!

I don't have a pic of mine right now, but the Champion aluminum radiator I installed in my 73 Camaro had two additional threaded bungs in the passenger side tank (no, not the trans cooler ports). Anyway, one was near the top very close to where the steam port line would attach to the radiator on an LS1 F-body set up. So I replaced the plug with a barbed hose fitting and routed the steam vent line to it. Looks like it was purpose built for this swap.

Same here - the new radiator I got had an extra hole near the upper hose - looks like it is purposely made for steam ports. I hammererd a short little piece of brake line into some plastic and then epoxyed the piece into the hole.

My concern with the water pump fix is that the steam doesn't rise "down".

We do not permit post whoring here to raise post counts, just a FYI, not being a dick, just enforcing site rules.

I wonder which LS vehicles used all four steam ports? So many have the rear two blocked off.

The LS1 I'm using for my 70 swap used all 4. It was from a 99 Z28.

Here's a pic of mine of mine that I mentioned above ^^^ You can see the brass barbed fitting I screwed into one of the extra ports in the tank.

Here was my solution.

And a very detailed post about it. Part came from Jags that Run.

*1970camaroRS* has a good solution. I think both Jegs and Summit also sell a similar piece with different size NPT bungs. These also work well for an after market temp gauge sender. If you're handy ,you can easily make one yourself, as in "free" LOL.

Sounds to me like we should just quit using Dex.
They never had problems at this level in a traditional SBC.
