Default Carb setup on ls1... Help

I have an 02 LS1 with a carb set up. I have some questions about this setup. I should be able to have it up and running soon but want to double check before I finalize a couple things... Now the steam crossover between the heads, Do I need to run this? I see the rear ports just have plugs.

The original setup when I bought the block had the crossover with it tapped into the water pump. Now, do I need to run the crossover to the water pump or radiator? I will post some pics to specify what I am talking about.

Those lines are there to get the last of the air out of the top of the motor when filiing it. Quite a few members have run for years with all 4 corners blocked off. If you do that you just need to make absolutely certain you get all the air out each and everytime you or someone else fills it.

Safe bet is to plumb them into a pressurized part of the cooling system. Raidator and waterpump are popular spots. Jaguars That Run sell a T with a vent and sight glass that plumbs into the upper radiator hose. Try a search

Is their any possible issue by tapping into the water pump and threading it for a fitting? Im wondering how to prevent or minimize any metal falling into the pump. I have the pump n stuff off the motor. Any tips for this?

Also how would I ensure all the air is out when I change fluids? If I choose to block em off?

I pulled the pump when drilling and tapping. They are pretty hollow inside, easy to rinse out.

If you block them off, jack up the front end so the forward vents are the highest point then pull both of the plugs when filling the motor. Put the plugs back in once coolant starts coming out. You will need to do this every time you put a significant amount of coolant in. You should do both vents to get the air out of both heads.

Even with the vents hooked up I find pulling one of the vents is the quickest way to both fill and drain the coolant. They have O rings so they reseal pretty flawlessly.

nice. I see both valve covers are vented. Are you pulling a vacuum on the motor somehow thru the valley cover, or just venting it?

I guess your referring to my Maverick in post #2? Just venting, no PCV system...

Interesting. As much as I've seen these motors puke into air/oil catch cans....I wouldn't have thought running vented only would work out to well.

my catch can....has oil in it now though
