Ive been dicking with this damn car for 2 weeks now and I still can't pinpoint my issue..

It will fire right up but it acts likes the wires are crossed! it runs buts chugs really bad... I thought maybe the carb had some crap in it so I tossed the Holley 750 back on it and it ran even worse..

I pulled every plug wire at the coil while it was running to see If I had a dead cylinder but all of them were sparking and the idle changed drastically each time i pulled a wire...

The only thing I did that might have any effect on it was move the 6010 from the intake to the inner fender.. I don't believe these boxes need to be ground but I ran a ground wire from the box to the engine anyways and of course nothing changed..

How could it go from running fine one day.. Park it... fire it up 3 days later after it sat undisturbed (with the exception of moving the box) and have it run like complete and utter ***!! I didnt drop the box or anything like that, I felt it got too hot on the intake so I want it moved to a cooler safer spot..

 

Ok heads up apparently the 6010 doesn't like to be mounted on plastic.. I put the box back on the intake and guess what.. it runs perfect.. this is freaking weird.. Theres no way its a grounding issue if the box is grounded directly to the battery but as the titles states.. I am at a loss

 

i would check my connectors. plastic inner fender should have nothing to do with it. they are on rubber isolators so ground should have nothing also.

 

Wonder if it's not a loose connection somewhere and moving the box tweeked the wire/plug some, causing issue ?

i had the same problem whit my rpm intake. and her is your problem.
ther is a wakum leek in 1 of the 4 holes for the msd box on the intake.
it is the one neer the carb.

 

I believe hes trying to say that one of the holes in the intake for the MSD box mounting is not blind tapped. It runs into the intake runner, so its producing a vacuum leak. Eric L

I had similar issue fouling my plugs put new grounds on the motor to chassis(rear mount battery) and its been perfect since. Are you getting fuel on your oil?

 

I thought the same damn thing... How can they possibly be acting like a ground when there rubber!

It makes no sense... While it was running.. I tugged and pulled on every stinking connection and there was no change... I thought I perhaps may have stretched the crank sensor line a little bit but that too proved to be perfectly fine..

 

Thank you sir from Denmark! So your saying I had a vacuum leak at the manifold and it was causing it to surge.. Hmmm thats a good possibility.. Considering the only change I made before it started acting up was moving the box i bet ur right!

are you running the victor jr. or the rpm intake. the victor jr. only has two open ports. one at the rear on the intake runner that is 3/8 pipe i think, and one at the base where the carb sets its 1/8 pipe.

 

If your hunting vacume leaks just spray possible areas with brake clean and watch for a change in idle

One of the screws that go thru the intake that hold the 6010 in place is not blind, it goes right into the port causing a massive vacuum leak... And I completely and obliviously missed it.. and Dr. Dub.. I did that I just didn't think to spray the mounting holes!!
