Help me spend my money
Ive got the coin to get a cam package now. I'm not biased to any one particular vendor. Here are the car specs.
1985 Mustang Coupe. Maybe 3200-3400 lbs?
5.3L 2005 L59
Holley mid-rise intake
BG Mighty Demon 750 Mechanical
TH400 with FTI transbrake valvebody
FTI 3800-4200 stall with baloon plate
4.10 gear ratio
I want a max effort cam that is good with carbs and nitrous. I plan to spray 100-200 through a plate kit.
I have a set of virgin 799 heads to replace the 706's. I can mill them if needed but I do not want to spring for full out porting and polishing.
So, with all that said. what cam/spring/pushrod package would you go with?

It is 227/237 duration on a 111 degree lobe separation with 4 degrees of advance and .595" lift. With this camshaft, you could mill the heads up to .020" and still have good piston-to-valve clearance. It will also work good with up to a 200 shot of nitrous.
The next step up in aggressiveness is the Junkyard Dog:

It is 232/244 duration on a 111 degree lobe separation with 4 degrees of advance and .621" lift. With this camshaft I would not recommend milling any more than .010". This camshaft can handle a 200 or so shot, but may not be as quick on motor in your 5.3 as our Hot Street camshaft listed above.

EAP Camshaft Choice
Hi Josh, I can use my EAP to be of help, this is a free service to LS-1 Tech members.
I too am very good at camshaft design, I do use Crower Cams as my grinder.
I supply a lobe file of my choice using Andrews Products design software. (my masters)
I can provide springs, retainers, etc.
One important item using EAP, a "model", is to predict Valve Float RPM.

I've always been curious as to how you vendors figure out a recommendation when someone asks for a "max effort" whatever component to complement their obviously not max effort build rundown that it is supposed to go with. From my point of view it seems like a no-win situation.
