Default Msd help

I need some advice on what to do. I am building a carbed ls3 drag racing motor. I can get a a used 6012 msd box with no harness for a good price. When i called msd to buy a replacement harness, they told me not to buy it because it is obsolete. They recommend i buy the new 6014 box. Thoughts??

We run the 6012 box. When the 6014 came out with all the new features we wanted one. Biggest reasons were data logging and individual cylinder timing. We used to run a super vic intake and the spark plugs never all looked the same with one always the leanest. We purchased a Cid LS3 4500 flanged carbed intake and a set of ICT billet adaptors to mate the intake up to our cathedral port heads. Yes you heard me right LS3 intake on cathedral port heads. Only port matching that had to be done was to the adaptor itself. We put the motor on the dyno and to our amazement the motor made 49 more Hp and 67 more ft pnds of trq. When we pulled the plugs every single one looked exactly the same. Talk about excellent fuel distribution. Which would explain why the egt's were all almost all exact. Pro Systems built us a 1100 Dominator to go on top and it was spot on. Now being the plugs are all the same we decided not to make the switch to the 6014. But IMO if we did not have a box and were in the market we would definitely get the 6014. I agree with MSD. If you ever think you may go fuel injection in the future you may want to start off with the holley dominator box. Talk about features.

Thank you for the very informative response. I decided to spend the coin and go with the 6014.
