Default ProForm vs Quickfuel

I ordered what I thought was a Quickfuel BR67213 from the local carquest ( I get good deals used to work there) and since BR67213 didn’t come up the 67213 did so I was ordered a ProForm rather than the Quickfuel. From what I gathered it’s the same just labeled differently but wanted to ask here to make sure I don’t need to send this back and order a quick fuel. It’s going on a 346 .030 cut 243s ws6asa cam and a dual plane.

Not all carbs are created equal.

My quick search didn't turn up anything about them not being the same, or that they are... jury is out.

I do think either one will work fine on your combo....as would most others.

What are your plans on the cars use ?

Mainly a street car. I’ll drive it every once in a while and take it to the track a couple times a year. I just wanted something with the most tuning ability.

For a street car, a vacuum secondary is best for MPG and drivability.

I don't completely agree with this, It depends on the engine. On the old low compression engines of the past it would hurt performance because most aftermarket carbs were to big for the application and most people didn't bother to tune them. With more compression bigger cam and better flowing heads they can work quite well. As far as hurting fuel economy, If it's tuned correctly then it's up to the driver to keep his/her foot out of it.

My mighty Demon DP carb with a progressive secondary linkage (1:1 linkage is worse)....you can see on the AFR meter the secondarys opening at cruise (65mph @ 3500-ish) On a VS carb where the secondarys are driven by vacuum. So at a steady cruise, vacuum is low leaving them closed Vs when you go WOT, the high vacuum makes them open.

Regardless of engine cubic inch size, compression, cam....throttle position and vacuum are the factors. FWIW

I honestly haven’t messed with carbed cars in the last 10 years. When I was a teenager I had a 600 Holley vacuum secondary I tried changing the springs in and couldn’t get the secondary’s to satisfy me. That carb was new and saw 3 different engines a 305, 302 Ford, and a Pontiac 400 and it was lazy on all 3 compared to the edelbrocks and Q jets I used back then. I went double pumper to avoid that and I wanted a Holley style carb for the ease of jet changes. I’ve got myself so used to Hptuners it’s like starting back over again going carb on this one.

That makes no sense at all, An engine only needs so much air and fuel to maintain rpm at with a specific load, So while cruising the fact that it's a mechanical secondary makes no difference at all. If you're seeing it on your AF'R meter then it's a tune issue.

Yes, you're right.... nothing to do with throttle position.
