Ok I am now slowly starting my second carbureted LS swap (first time was in a 68 Camaro, now in a 66 Chevy ll Nova).
I got my hands on a G8 brand new GM alternator (92193199) and for the life of me, I can't figure out which wire does what. It's a two wire alternator and I have the pigtail, but there are no markings on the alternator (there were on my 4 wire truck alternator when I did the other swap).
Been searching over and over, and can't find anything. I am not running any oem computer, this thing will be carbureted, so I need to wire this to my oem style wiring harness. Would like the GEN light to work, it does on my LS swapped 68 Camaro.
Any help would be appreciated. Here are pics of what I have, not that I have no clue if the colors from that pigtail match GM's colors.
That ( 2-Pin plug ) alternator relies on the PCM for a PWM signal to regulate.
You MIGHT get lucky and it will (barely) work at 13.8 volts with the 2 wire plug NOT CONNECTED.
Will not let the battery discharge at steady 13.8 volts, but will not CHARGE the battery adequately. You'll be able to drive the vehicle, but wil have to fully charge your battery at least once a week to prevent ( sulphation ) damage to the battery.
There are some external PWM pulse boxes you can put together for standalone charge control, but there is really no point, as the older alternator with the 4 pin plug is much eaisier to hook up, and will regulate at 14.4 volts and has temperature compensation BUILT IN.
I use the 145 amp Yukon/Escalade alternaotr #8292 on ALL my LS builds. Even with an oversize 3.25" pulley, they work well and can take high RPM without issue.

Ok I see.... now one more question arises....will that alternator you're talking about or any other one for that matter, work on the original G8 bracket I currently have ?
CARBURETED LS in '66 Nova..... I think you have the skills to bend up a piece of steel strap, and drill holes to match the Alternator mounting Spool.
. For simplicity, if it were my project , I'd probably use a Delco 10SI 7127-105Amp Self-Excited alternator- That way you run ONE SINGLE CABLE to charge, no other wires necessary.
I am sure your local auto electric rebuild shop will have 'em in stock- or they should be able to build one in a day.
