Default Tripometer read from?

What does the tripometer read from? My cars sitting waiting for my new rear end. I started it up because I like to do that at least once a week or two weeks when it's sitting. The rear is partially torn apart, no driveshaft and I had the car in neutral (M6) and yet I managed to drive .4 miles.

Default

it reads from the output shaft of the trans. when the input shaft is turning, the countershaft still makes the output shaft turn a little when there is no driveshaft to hold it.
