Default Ls1 to ls3

Looking to update my 98 ss ls1 to the new LS3 ..I was told by The guys at the local chevy dealer there will be wiring harness issues since the new LS3 is fly by wire and the 1st gen LS1 is cable. Has anyone made the swap ? Is there wiring kits available so the traction control is still operable ??

Never did the swap, just throwing out an idea. What would happen if you put your LS1 throttle body on the LS3? Not sure if it would work or bolt up but if you need to change from drive by cable to drive by wire you would have to purchase a new accelerator pedal as well and that could cost another $1,000.00 or so since it will be a pedal and sensors. I would see if the ECM will throw a code if it doesn't detect a foot pedal position sensor and go from there.

Hey thanks for the thought. Unfortunatley the LS1 intake and heads..drive by cable will not mactch up with the lS3 which is rectangular and drive by wire.. then there is the trans issue. Not sure what we are going to do yet

You can buy an aftermarket 90-92mm throttle body that has a 4-bolt flange and run that on the LS3 style intake. I have a LS3 intake on my 02 camaro and it is cable style and works great with a SDPC throttle cable bracket!

I have the similar swap but using an cast iron 6.0 block. I went with the FAST 92 mm TB, and had to use the linglefelter reluctor converter box. You will need to change out your intake rockers and rod they sit on. They will not bolt up to the L92 heads. I was able to salvage my exhaust rockers though. You will also need to use the LS3 fuel rail and your MAP sensor changes locations. I'm using my LS1 60lb injectors but you have to measure and find custom injector O-rings unless you swap to LS3 style injector. Hope this helps. All I could think of for now.

Thanks for that info sweetSS.. So I assume there is no issues with your tranny operation? Does your SS have the traction control?
