Exclamation SS Identification?

I am looking at a 2002 SOM Camaro, how ever I am not 100% sure if it is a true SS. The title makes no mention of it being a SS. The title only says Z-28. Does anyone know who I can determine if it is a true SS? I also was told that Chevrolet offered ( 2 ) versions of the SS.
1. Is the SLP SS version.
2. Is the Chevrolet SS version.

How do I verify which one it actually is?

I believe WU8 means Chevrolet SS and Y2Y means SLP 'dual label'. If you've got the vin, plug it in at www.compnine.com and look at the options it was born with.

There was only one version of the SS, and it was done by SLP. GM did not do any LS1 SS conversions in house, so every LS1 Camaro SS is an "SLP SS".

Check the SPID sticker for the RPO code "WU8". If it has this code, then it's an original SS. If not, then it isn't.

A real SS is also a Z28, because all SSs started off life as a Z28 under the skin. So you will also see the "Z28" RPO on the SPID sticker in addition to "WU8", if it's an SS. Other official documentation such as VIN reports, etc., may also say Z28 since the VIN number does not directly indicate SS or Z28.

You can use sites like Compnine (listed above) or any GM dealer to run the VIN and provide a VIS report that will list all RPOs for the car.

The "Y2Y" RPO mentioned above was initially only present on SS cars that received additional SLP content above and beyond the base SS package. But starting in '01 or '02, this code was present on all SS cars even if they had nothing more than base SS equipment. "Y2Y" does NOT replace "WU8", but would be seen in addition to it.
