Compnine report Picked up a 99 Hugger Orange V6 5spd a few weeks ago. Has 90k miles, hard top, grey cloth interior, manual locks and windows, and no cruise. Even came with a tape deck(my 14yr old was dumbfounded). I know Hugger Orange was a 1 year run so I was curious on how many were made similar to this. I ran the report and what stuck out to me the most were code 99U and 1AY. Using the chart that JohnnyBs98WS6Rag created, 99U to be for Hugger Orange but the report has it as Dark Slate Mettalic. 1AY on marshu.com is “stock orders processing option(dealer ordered car) but on the report it’s “order modification”. So could this car have been silver then painted HO by dealer? This is my first time trying to decode so any help appreciated.
GM re-uses RPOs across brands, models and years. In 1999 on the Camaro, 99U indicated factory applied Hugger Orange exterior paint. "Dark Slate Metallic" was not used on any year 4th gen Camaro, and 99U was used ONLY for Hugger Orange in '99 on the Camaro, so I would consider this description suspect.

Its probably similar to the paint code RPO code on the 50th anniv corvettes. They all have dark slate metallic as the description on compnine and then the "50th package" which changes the color to anniversary red.

The Service Parts Identification sticker shows the car was painted Hugger Orange at the factory. The paint code is listed as 523F which is Hugger Orange and in the RPO section, 99U is shown which also indicates the exterior color was Hugger Orange. This information can be verified by the 1999 Service Manual in the General Information section using Service Parts ID and the RPO code list .
