there is a plug on the diff housing, you'll need a 3/8 rachet...take it out and stick your finger in there....it should actually come pouring out...but if you can feel the hieght of the level you're good....its probably a good time to have the fluid changed anyway..

stick your pinky in the hole, it wont come pouring out but you should be able to touch it without bending your finger too much.. someone might have replaced your gasket with that silicone ****.. think its called pc something i dont know.. but mine leaked because of that.. anyway, its easy yo change.. just get a regular oil pan and unbolt the diff cover, remove the gasket.. get a new one from place like pep boys or something about 20$, 2 quarts or synthetic 75-90 about 8$ each and a tube of limited slip additive about $4, seal it all up and refill it and you should be good to go it should be fine.. if it still leaks, save up for that 12 bolt or 9"

If it is the front pinion seal , before you take off the yoke , make sure the drip is really bad enough to warrant it. Removing the yoke will screw up the preload on the internal gears and you have to have them reset . If you don't , you will get a roar from ther rearend or worse yet, trash the gears.
