The best value for power is the LS1 cars. Another thing to do is get a Lexus IS300 2002-2004 models with the 5speed manual and then turbo it to make it a Supra TT hidden in an IS300 because they have the same base engine. Or just get a Supra. I like Lexus GS400's as well. They have E-shift which is basicly an automatic but can shift on the steering wheel. Lexus is just a bad *** company. They have the SC400 as well which is also fast. All are rwd and they are all very reliable and the interiors are top notch. Clublexus.com is a good place to learn. WRX isn't a car you should be road racing in. Of course it is a very good car for track racing. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is better though. Of course everyone these days is getting the SRT-4's, I personaly wouldn't because of FWD and bad body style. One car I like is the Mercedes SL500 I believe the 1996-1997 models were the first to have 5 spd autos instead of 4 spd. The C4 Vette is another favorite. It looks very similar to the Benz I just mentioned. Other Benz cars to consider would be the CLK430 and the SLK Kompressor. Both cars look very nice. Neither are power kings at stock though. Always wanted a Nissan 300ZX, they fit the combonation of cheap and fast very nicely. (Also on my edit post) One thing I forgot to mention was the later model Jaguar XJR's. They are supercharged XJ8's and they produce nearly 400 hp. It is a 4 door sedan as well if you are looking for a sleeper.
All of these cars mentioned are under 20k used. I have tested or been in all of the rides mentioned above and I have some knowledge on all of them. For me though, with my tight budget I will go with an LS1 for chill inducing power for not much cash. Of course I couldn't match a BMW on a track, but I will never see a track unless I decide to race later in my life.
