Default Help!!

Ok car wont start, got in it, and it wouldnt do anything, i mean it wont make a sound when I try to turn it over. Tryed to jump it off, but the battery was fine, lights and cd player come on etc. Checked all the fuses, and they where all fine. I noticed that my security light was on, so i left the key turned over for about 2 mins, and the light went off, but it still wouldnt do anything, and ever time you try to start it, the light just some back on. So i think it might just be the chip in the key that went bad, but how would i know if it is the iginition switch or not? What else could it be?

The starter would not make any noise. The starter in my '92 Z34 went but I sort of knew it was coming because it was real hard to start for about a week. It would crank slowly for about 5 seconds before firing up. Once dead, there was no noise while trying to start up. All lights worked fine though.

starter relay. under your hood, swap your starter relay for your ignition relay and see what happens. I had the same problem, and that was it. Another guy on here had the same problem, I told him to try it, and it was it. I didn't even change mine, just wiggled it a bit, been fine a long time now. I made this same thread and a guy told me to try that and it fixed me for free

It's a big fuse box under the hood. You pop the lid off. Underside of the lid should show which relay is which. They plug in like big fuses. The two big ones in there are ign and starter if I remember correctly. I think it was on the drivers side but don't hold me to that.

you might need some pliers, their pretty stubborn, though even just a wiggle might send you on your way. Try not to break it with the pliers, I imagine that would not make your situation more fun.

I went through this about a year ago...

After checking out the relays, check into the VATS system.Do a search, there will be tons of info.

Here is my post from back then.My problem turned out to be the VATS system. In specific, the little wires coming off the ignition key cylinder.

VATS Thread

You can get the proper resistors or use a spare key as I did to bypass it.Check your key out with a multimeter first to find out what resistance pellet your key has. Then try inserting the key in the ignition and testing the resistance coming off the plug under the knee panel coming from the steering column. The thread explains it a bit better and it sounds more comlicated then it actually is.The link on the 2nd page of the thread shows pics of how you test the resistance of your key pellet and has another link showing the bypass diagram.

Mine has been working fine (bypassed) for over a year now with no issues.Only reason I mention all of this is becuase you stated that your security light comes on.So would mine when I would try to start it.

Good luck man and hope it helps.

1. My car didn't start, security light on etc...
2. did a bunch of reading, peeps said bypass my vats so I bought a kit.
3. Before I installed the vats kit I tried wiggling the starter relay and that fixed it.

So I never used the vats bypass kit I bought, and I never bought resistors. So if yours isn't just the starter relay then I can sell you my vats bypass kit I didn't use, if you want it.

Well first, I would try replacing the starter relay with the ignition relay just to try another relay to see if it turns over and that one is bad, free test. But anyway, I bought the vats bypass kit off ebay and never even opened the box. So I'm sure it comes with everything a new kit should come with.
