The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
After checking out the relays, check into the VATS system.Do a search, there will be tons of info.
Here is my post from back then.My problem turned out to be the VATS system. In specific, the little wires coming off the ignition key cylinder.
VATS Thread
You can get the proper resistors or use a spare key as I did to bypass it.Check your key out with a multimeter first to find out what resistance pellet your key has. Then try inserting the key in the ignition and testing the resistance coming off the plug under the knee panel coming from the steering column. The thread explains it a bit better and it sounds more comlicated then it actually is.The link on the 2nd page of the thread shows pics of how you test the resistance of your key pellet and has another link showing the bypass diagram.
Mine has been working fine (bypassed) for over a year now with no issues.Only reason I mention all of this is becuase you stated that your security light comes on.So would mine when I would try to start it.
Good luck man and hope it helps.
1. My car didn't start, security light on etc...
2. did a bunch of reading, peeps said bypass my vats so I bought a kit.
3. Before I installed the vats kit I tried wiggling the starter relay and that fixed it.
So I never used the vats bypass kit I bought, and I never bought resistors. So if yours isn't just the starter relay then I can sell you my vats bypass kit I didn't use, if you want it.
