Default SEMA and California agree on titling specialty vehicles

Looks like SEMA and the State of California have come to an agreement on how to title Specially Constructed Vehicles, including an amnesty program for those that may have been titled improperly. It may not be what the typical car builder may want, but at least it demonstrates a willingness to come to a workable solution. Here is a link to SEMA's press release:

I guess the only engines every used are Chevys.

Well, it definitely is progress of sorts, & I appreciate you posting this Pat. (Although the IDEAL situation would be that Kalifornia wouldn't be full of hyper-regulatory fascist types in the first place...)

....wait, does that mean when i do the swap in my 70 it'll have to be one of those 500 specialty vehicles otherwise i'll have to pass smog?

That's not how I read it. You have a car that is already titled, or should be. The ones this helps are the Cobra replicas and the fiberglass 32 Fords and such. It also helps the guy putting a new motor in a post 1976 car that has to go through emissions certification. With a 75 or earlier you are still smog exempt.

ok, was getting worried, i'd always thought pre-76 was exempt and was wondering if i misread that, glad i did
