Swap - starts and dies 3 seconds afterwards
Hi all,
I'm finishing up my ls1 swap into my e36. I have the basic wiring in place, all the engine basics plugged in including front o2 sensors. I have a VATS bypass box in place and it indicates it's working (green LED maintained while ign on)
I turn the key to ign, fuel pump relay kicks and fuel flows.
I kick the starter on, engine catches and fires - runs at idle for ~3 seconds and then dies - fuel pump runs for the requisite 2 seconds and then stops.
if I key off and recrank the motor most often will immediately catch and then die again ~3 seconds later. sometimes it will crank for a few seconds without firing and then i'll pause cranking and start again and it will catch and repeat the 3 second death.
I've searched here and elsewhere and everything points to VATS, my bypass SEEMS to be in place, wired correctly and all that, is this something vats would do or is there another sensor that would cause this? i've unplugged the MAF as that was a potential culprit - no change there.
My other option is to bypass the vehicle ign wiring all together to see if I'm running into a body specific fuel or ignition cut/security system issue.
thoughts? is my VATS bypass busted, am I having another weird issue? swap motor/harness is out of an 01 transmarobird

hmm, that's an interesting thought... I don't know what tune is on the motor I have... It had throttle body coolant lines bypassed and bigger ignition wires already on it... it's entirely possible there is another tune on it. time to find someone in town to do a vats delete :o
thanks guys
