awesome. Thanks again.
On the headers, are they 1 7/8" primaries? I couldn't find that on s&p's website and sounds like the ls3/l92 heads might need that as opposed to 1 3/4? I haven't received my heads yet to measure/confirm (they are on order).
It's very convenient you're doing this install just a few months before me. Thanks for being the guinea pig!
Keep up the good work.

Boy ain't that the truth. No time to work on it at all. I got a bunch more parts - just waiting for the AFX spindles from SC&C and wheels from Driverz Inc. This is the first week in a month they aren't calling for a major snow storm so hopefully I'll have a chance to work on it over the next two weeks or so.

Hey CFster,
Any progress lately?
Quick question maybe you can answer for me. I've got my motor about ready to go in, and started prepping the 400 to come out. (Build thread in my sig.) My short term exhaust plan (for cost reasons) is to run F-body manifolds and my existing exhaust. I'm pretty sure I'll switch to the shorty headers like you, especially if I can use my existing Z-bar linkage and not have to use a hyraulic clutch. But if not, I may just go long-tube.
So......how much clearance is there on the driver's side between the frame/firewall/body? I know you don't have a Z-bar in there, but curious, in general how much space is there and the exact routing of the header (where it points). If you can easily get a picture from underneath, only if you're there anyway, that would be helpful, but don't worry if you can't. I'm sure I'll get a good idea of how things will fit once I see what it looks like with my F-body manifolds.
Hope you've made some progress!

Spectre tank with a Corvette regulator. Aeroquip TFE hose all the way up. I hope I don't have the starvation issues some people have been having with that tank (didn't find out until after I bought it...) but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I tried installing an Inline Tube 3/8" pre-bent fuel line. Hah, hah, hah. Those are for when the body is off the frame. Ended up in a wadded up ball in the trash.
I couldn't believe how quickly it started though. I mean it turned over maybe twice and ran perfect. It's amazing how similar to a Corvette or Camaro it sounds, even with the Pypes x-pipe exhaust. It's also amazing how quiet it is at idle.
I have to take care of an oil leak before I drive it (can't tighten the oil pressure switch enough with the adapter on it to run the old style for the gauges), and move some wires coming out of the body (Compushift to trans) because they're basically laying on a header.
Hopefully we can drive it in the next few days.

Those brakes look like z06 brakes that where bead blasted....
Let me say this - with Hawk HPS pads and stainless brake lines - those things stop on DIME!
Much better then the z51 brakes my Vette came with!

To each his own. Don't think they like me too much at Performance Years forum either.
We like to drive out cars though and that's what matters.

that's why they put a "Non-Pontiac Motors in Pontiacs" section in the PY forum though... it's common. I'd love to build the 400 in my goat, but for the price, you can't beat an LSx. i can't wait to do my '66 - the nova's been just too fun.
