5.3 flywheel and older tanny conversion??
ok guys maybe someone on here can shed some light on this subject? this ls based engine game is new to me however i am going to learn all about it! i have a few questions about the standard flywheels on the 5.3 engines compared to the 5.7. will the flywheels interchange? i am looking at a 5.3 but was in an auto tranny 4 wheel drive truck and want to go standard tranny in my 55 belair. also i see auto tranny conversion adapters out there but how hard would it be to adapt say a 5 speed out of a camaro or s-10 to these engines? also do i need to change the oil panand if so to which one?the engine is from a 2000 chevy 4 wheel drive. any and all help is appreciated!

For an auto it will bolt right up to an older trans. You will need to elongate the converter holes and use the fly wheel spacer found on later 6.0 (I have one send me a pm if your interested). The two wheel and 4x4 use the same fly. Not sure bout using a five speed.

Torque rating for an S10 5 speed (T5) and V6 camaros was only about 200ft/lbs. V8 camaros T5s came in WC and non-WC, the WC was rated for about 300 ft/lbs and might survive behind a 5.3.
You'll need a 168 tooth bell housing (Keisler), probably a hydraulic clutch, LS1 flywheel/clutch (they're interchangable on all LS based motors), and LS7 pilot bearing.
Pans are also interchangable and will depend on the cars crossmember, steering clearance, ground clearance, rtc. That might be a candidate for the LH8 pan.

hey guys thanks for all the info.i really appreciate it. Now time to gather all the parts. I do have one more question on the 6speeds from an lt1 car are they able to be used ? i think i remember hearing that the clutch and throw out bearing and the way it released the clutch was totally backward to the normal operation. anyone know if this is correct or can it be used?
