69 camaro SS with LS/T56

Last week i cleaned the firewall and removed all the wires and crap so i can have it sanded and painted. I decided to remove the heater box nad see whats going on inside. I found dirt, leaves and all kinds of stuff that got in there some how. After that find i was kind of scared what i might find under the front half of the carpet. I know im going to have to relocate the shifter hole when i drop the tranny in so i pulled the heater box and carpet out. Surprise, more bad news. Found all kinds of rust on the passenger side floor board. It does not look that bad. I will find out how bad it is when i start sanding. Im really disapointed but was kind of expecting to find some kind of rust in there because every time i wash the car i would find a puddle of water on the carpet but could not see where it was coming from.
So from a simple engine swap this is becoming a restoration project..lol
Man, i need to find another job just to keep up with the parts list.
Anyways, I also started to shred all the accessories of the 5.3.
All the accessories are for sale so let me know if you need anything.

a little video when it was alive.
It will be reborn again, but this time it will be computer savvy and still appeal to your grandpa.

Im so F&^%$ pissed. I was looking at my pics and just noticed that I have two different cast numbers on my heads. Im surprised no one caught that. The driver side is 862 and the other is 706. Whats the deal here, are there any major differences between the two? If i need new heads, whats the best truck heads that would work with my combo?

Thats interesting, i did not know that.
So if they are the same, I can use them with no problems?
Question: I have been thinking about boring it out to 5.7 and using the pistons and rods from a ls1. I know people have done this before but is there anything else that has to be changed or piston to crank clearance issues. I asked a machine shop that was recemanded to me and they said they dont think it is possible to bore that much.
So, is this possible and how much does it cost for machine work and to assemble the short block with parts provided?
Thanks for the help guys.

Sako,
I feel your pain Bro! What started as an LS2/4L70E swap turned into a full-blown resto! But then again, it is a "labor-of-love" is it not?? It took about 3K to redo my floor (totally) to include my toe-boards... I guess those "Rushforths" will have to wait....

My trailblazer SS 6.0 had a 799 casting on one side and a 243 on the other, I took them to Patriot for their CNC machining and they said they were the same dimension only cast differently. They look GREAT now with their valves and springs an CNC porting job. Bill

tango: wow 3k, that hurts. I think i got a real good solid car. Thats the only rust i have seen on the car. Its a black plate car thats been in Cali its hole life.
BMF: you need the spindles and hubs from a drum brake car. I got the brackets from a guy on one of these forums. I can look for his email if you need them. They were cheep and fit perfectly.
Cookseyb: I do not want to spend crazy money for machine work on these heads. Just want to get the car running. Then when i build a nice 6.0 long block, i will just transfer all the parts from this engine. I just want to know if these heads will work together with my combo or should i just find a matching pair?

nothin to worry about- they were close enough to be 'within spec' by gm and to be interchangable by their standards, unless you wanna sell them for some 243s for the inexpensive performance gains id say make sure the springs/guides/etc are in good shape and youre good to go
