Default 66 Impala LS2/4L65E swap Info

I just bought the Engine/Trans assy out of a 06 GTO.........I have 2010 Camaro exhaust manifolds..........If anyone has done this swap I would appreciate any input such as Power steering hook-up.....will the 4L65E fit without cutting the tunnel?........Thanks in advance

Don't have any experience with '66 Impalas, but I wouldn't think it would be much different than any other swap. Was '66 the year they got away from the X frame? I think it was, and that makes life much easier. Oh yeah, we need pics! But please tell me this isn't the beige 427 car you posted pics of on the '37 build thread.

It would be nice to know what FEAD (front end accessory drive) you are planning on using too.

Last X frame Impala was 1964, so 1965 is the first perimeter frame Impala. Those cars came with Powerglides and Turbo 350's and a 4L60E is similar in dimension to the 350 so there shouldn't be much if any tunnel mods necessary.

If memory serves me correctly this is a rear steer car which I think will be more trouble than anything.

For power steering, are you talking hoses? I had my hoses made by a guy locally that was referred to me by my hot rod buddies and the local hydraulic place for that and AC stuff. I brought the hoses and told him the lengths and he made it happen. If the steering is too quick you can reduce the pressure with a pressure reducer I bought that goes in the output of the power steering pump.

You must like GTO's Ken... you have one and two projects with that engine!

Good luck.

That's what I was concerned about (Trans tunnel clearance)........I'm gonna try the Holley pan and see how that works.....got a set of 2010 Camaro exhaust manifolds.......and......I was concerned about the power steering pump pressure compatability issues.......
Eric.....the Beige car is staying just the way it is and is looking for a new home.....LOL..........I already have the GTO engine/trans assy but I'm still looking for a rust free 66 Impala to start with....
Once everything comes together I'll start a build thread......although I think it will be a little easier than the 37 Ford build...LOL
