cooling fan question
Ok folks,
I'm finally at the spot of doing odds and ends. I hooked up my electric fan tonight and flushed the cooling system. I fired up the car and let it run until the fan kicked on. I turned the engine off, but left the key in the accessory on position to let the fan run until it shut off. It runs a while, maybe ten minutes to get the fan switch to turn off. That seems high to me.
How long does everyone's fan run? It is like 80 degrees here tonight and the car was sitting in my hot, muggy garage.
But, I'm thinking my fan may be too small or I need to make a shroud.
Thanks all for any advice,
Mike

Sorry, I should have put that info in for everyone.
Fan on: 180
Fan off: 165
The fan switch is an 1/8 npt run into a metric adaptor so it'll fit in the head without leaking as well. Just in case that matters.

It's a 72 nova with a radiator from an 02 camaro. Unfortunately, I can't reset it since I wired in a fan switch and it isn't running off the computer. Why would you switch it back? I know these engines like to run warm (hot), but I figured I was doing a good thing kicking the fans on early. I'm assuming the thermostat is still kicking open since the passenger side head filled enough to turn on the fan switch. Am I right?

Sounds like you fan is doing exactly what it is suppose to do. I have a 160° thermostat but my motor typically runs around 180°. Like said above you won't spend much time down at 165°
Remember once you turn the motor off there is no more coolant flow so the fan is only going to cool the radiator off. The motor takes longer.
I have a $34 Derale adjustable thermo with a radiator fin probe that turns on my low speed fan. I would love to add a second switch to turn on the high speed fans should the temp ever hit 200°. But nbody makes one that fits the M12 head opening. I did find an M14x1.5 switch with a 205 on, 185 off and turned it down, but it snapped when I tried to tighten it in the head.
