I love those malibus. My first one was a 76 that my dad bought new and gave to me when i was about 12. It was rotted in areas at that point but i had the body work done and i learned about engines and alot more on that car. I miss it deeply.
I had the same problem with the truck oil pan on my 80 Z28. I cut 2.5 inches off it and bought a piece of 1/4 inch aluminum plate. Shaped it up to the pan and a friend tigged it up for me. Worked great and the pan still holds just over 5 litres of oil. If you hit something even lightly with the pan hanging like that you will have a BIG problem. Trust me. Good luck, i will also be watching for updates.

thanks a ton guys, glad to see some support after the haters at the beginning of the thread.
sadly i havent made any physical progress on the car, but i have been collecting parts. and i thought id share a pic of all the parts that arent currently on the car for mock up
GMPP LS1 Hot Cam
GMPP Carb Intake (not pictured)
Hughs off set flex plate
Hughs Crankshaft Spacer
MSD 6010 6LS ignition box
ARP Mains Stud Kit
2010 Camaro Exhaust Manifolds
Holley 600 cfm 4160 carb (being rebuilt now)
looked into it more and am leaning towards a CTS-V oil pan, found a set up for about $120 thru GMpartsdirect. i did some measuring and from what i can tell its going to fit and work. ill post plenty of pix for you guys
rough mock up of the exhaust manifolds tells me the drivers side will fit perfect but the passenger hits the fram, but not by much, either going to grind the flange or borrow the big hammer from work
until next weeks paycheck there wont be much more progress. might try to remove the dash and clean all that up, anyone have insight on doing it on this year chevelle?
that wagon sounds sweet, when ur thread is up ill deff be following, wagons r sweet.
also does anyone have an opinion on these corvette wheels? they came with the car and are in good shape, but wont work for me with the styling im going for. should i sell them since they are original 76-79 corvette? or sand blast and paint them?

Haters are just too scared to break away from the norm. I kinda like the wheels personally. They're not gorgeous but they're different. I'd check eBay and see what they're going for and then decide what to do with them. Either way keep up the good work!

im going to have to go with that pan. had a homer simpson moment with the pan today.
good news, bad news time guys.
GOOD: manifolds are going to work great, minus just touching the control arm mount on the frame. big hammer from work will fix this . going to make exhaust tuck in towards the center so that it meets the rest of the exhaust pretty close to where full length headers would.
BAD: oil pan is sitting on the frame but not by much. CTS-V pan is my only hope at this point. get paid friday and after paying bills i should have enough to get the pan and pick up from GM Parts Direct. anyone think i could make the truck dip stick and tube work on the caddy pan?
i'll keep posting as more progress is made. gonna go pull the pan and get measurements on how much room i have.

It's getting there! I'll be trying to set mine in place this weekend and see where I am going to have issues. I started a thread on the wagon if you wanna follow along with me also.

while im waiting for parts i figured id rip out the dremel and start porting the oil pump. stock the casting is pretty smooth.
took the whole thing to work and let it soak in the parts washer while a did a muffler on a jeep for a friend.
came back and it was pretty much clean, did some brushing took apart and got it like the first pic.
then it was just light work with stones. had a huge chuck in the intake and took it off before i thought to take a pic. these r pretty much the before pix
also figured out how to use focuz on the phone so now pix will b much clearer

Heat it cherry red and beat it!! To be honest if its touching you can slip some washers under the motor mount to raise the engine slightly..
