just so happens i am doing a 85 c-10 short bed my self.
i did the 5.3 for cheeper and its 295hp .
guys saying on here 1 had 80's short bed and did 5.3 and claims 18mpg average. other guy has a early 60's chevy full size wagon and last tank was 17.5mpg and he runs 4.10 gears in the rear.
i did all truck stuff and dirty dingo mounts for 2wd truck and adjustable position. got mine just over 1" back from stock and clear fire wall fine.
also 1" forward or stock clears all points fine.
i found dirt cheep mod for truck manifold clearence on driver side https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...xaust-mod.html
and dbw electric gas pedel mod is dirt cheep easy also. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...l-mod-dbw.html and going dbw gets you cruise control with wires.
there is a lot of chevy truck ls 2wd swap thereads here to read from .
good luck and ask me if you cant find somthing .
also here is were i got my info on modifying my harnness http://www.lt1swap.com/2000harness.htm and i added the 2 pins for electric fans why go mech anymore when searching for power and mileage.
few pics of my motor in my 2wd frame to get you started .

Yes, the 6.0 could have come with the 4L80e transmission. If it didnt you will just need to tune the PCM for the 4L80E. Agree with some of the advantages of DBW listed above as well. DBW is going to offer you ease of cruise control integration, just make sure you get the TAC (Throttle Actuator Control) Module and Electronic Pedal when you get the engine to help keep the cost down. If you dont get these components, we have them in stock.

Couldn't afford the 6.0 so in goes the 5.3
Ok picked up a nice 5.3 today, but I'm torn between injection and carb, any body got any input? I have three options I'm considering. 1.stock truck setup,2. Carbed with msd controls. 3. Carb with distributor on front cover ( I'm leaning towards this because I've done the other two and it just seems so simple).

I vote stock truck intake and fuel injection. Better fuel mileage and much better in my own opinion. I will be doing the exact same swap (85 C10 5.3 swap) so I'm subbed

I am also in the middle of putting an all aluminum ls1 in my 85 swb. I went with a dbw setup and truck accessories. Had all the covers power coated and all the accessory brackets coated. Hopefully ill begin the installation by the first or second week of august. Ill start a thread once i begin...

I'm also in the middle swapping a 5.3L into a '81 C10. I went with LS1 intake and truck accessories. Cable LS1 throttle body.
If your trying to do a quick swap then I'd just go with truck intake and accessories and use the DBW.
