Default Single Turbo Aluminum 5.3L 300ZX Build Thread - Pic Heavy

Well its just about finished. 4 months of hard work while working 50 hours a work wasn't easy but I'm happy with where this thing is going.

Here are some technical details for anyone interested.

I'd like to thank Andy Renton and Matt Fithian for their help with the build. Without them I never would have been able to tear apart the car, cut the firewall, and put it back together in under a few weeks!

I'd also like to thank David at Shaftmasters for providing me with the fastest turn around ever on a indestructible drive shaft! And Jason Ritter for TIG welding the aluminum components.

I can't believe it is only a hair over 3,000lbs. Those were portly pigs when they came out.

interested to see how it performs!

Im not usually one to question peoples motives on their builds but why not package the intercooler/piping a bit more neatly...will make a world of difference. Other wise sounds like a fun car and hope you enjoy it.

The intercooler sticking out of the bumper on the passenger side is actually being used as a second radiator. There is an air to water intercooler under the driver's side headlight used to cool the intake charge.

Build Pictures...
(lots of electrical work here, can see the progression of the harness)

Another one when I received the engine.

Okay so recent updates are as follows, I have decided to switch the location of the main radiator and the air to water intercooler. This will allow me to place a regular bumper on with out anything sticking out.

To solve the hood protrusion issue I moved the engine down another inch, I also cut the firewall to move the engine back about 3 inches which will provide a better front to rear weight distribution.

I am properly mounting all of the hardware on the front of the car (no more zip ties holding the radiators and heat exchangers on!)

I also added a proper catch can and PCV setup, a Aermotive FPR and a Walbro 255HP in-tank pump. I'll update the first post to reflect the most current condition of the vehicle.

More pictures...

Below you can see the drivetrain out of my brother's Camaro and the engine in the z for the first time in the background.

Dont get me wrong, im glad theres another LSx 300z but I was really hoping since you cut the firewall it would be a much cleaner swap than what I saw when I scrolled down. Damn man you butchered the car! Im glad now you say the hood clears.

Seems like in the past week the LSx 300zx's are coming out of the woodworks lol I get mine done and BAM, 3 more! haha

The butcher work is from earlier this year, I just wanted to get it running. It will be much nicer once I take some new pictures in a month or two.
