Well, the engine shop dropped some bad news last week. Three cylinders were full of water and heavily rusted and pitted. So I got my money back on the iron block and picked up a LS1 aluminum block from a 2002 camaro with heads for only $200 bucks! On order: coated bearings, forged pistons and rods, custom cam, and more!! Pictures coming soon

Wow that sucks on the iron block.. Did You ever try turning the crank by hand?... Any idea how the water got in?

I turned it by hand once around and it felt fine. When I got the motor the spark plugs were in and the intake manifold was on. Really not sure how all that water got in, but the guy who I bought it off from said the truck sat in a field without a hood on for 6 months....

So, motor is done and ready to be installed with a built TH400.

Next question is:

1) Keep my 12 bolt rear end, and build it to withstand 800hp

2) Buy a brand new 9" Ford that's ready to rock and roll ( but for $$$$ more )

Your guna has a 12 bolt in it? They came with 10 bolts right? I have been looking for a 12 bolt for my sons Chevelle. What gears are in it? Posi? Let me know if you decide to pull it. I may be interested.

Yeah, it came with a 12 bolt when I bought it. The owner before must have changed swapped it out.

What gears are you running or planning to run? I had the ecm setup for 3:42 in ours.

Subscribed for pics. I have a 73SS with a 454. Decided to keep the BBC and LS swap the stang instead.

@MichiganLarry - I thinking of running 3.73 or 3.91's. I would like to turn 3,000 rpms @ 70mph cruising.

Cool build, my great aunt just sold her 73 Chevelle Mailibu. Would have loved to have grabbed it, but I already got too many cars and no money. Have any shots of the whole car?

Can't really offer too much advice, but can give you some encouragement.

As cool as those 454 badges are, you're gonna have to swap em for some LS1 badges!
