Physical size...truck 5.3 and a truck 6.0...same?

Nice! We put a 5.3 in a place it shouldn't be, and it is TIGHT all around. Less than an inch to either side, the top, the bottom, the front AND the rear. Now we want to 6.0-ify another of the same vehicle.

Please remove said 5.3 from the closet and install into the nearest performance vehicle.

I'm new here and fairly new to the Scout world also
I just purchased a 2004 Chevy truck with a 4.8 with the intentions of installing it in my '74 Scout II. Mine will have the NV4500 with a Dana20 transfer
Havent done alot of measuring but I'm surprised to hear that its a tight fit. The IH motor is massive.
Mine is to be a daily driver,not an offroader or hotrod but I was hoping for better performance and fuel economy too. hopefully the 4.8 will not disappoint
glad to see others have done this swap since I'll have lots of questions

With no lift, it's tight. Under an inch to the bottom of the hood, the oil pan and AC compressor to the diff, the right manifold to firewall, the left manifold to frame rail, and the fans to water pump. That is tight. The 5.3 would be good with some gears, but this one had 3.07s in it. The next one is going to be a 6.0 and 3.54s or 3.73s...

Run the F-body LS1 or LS3 exhaust manifolds will give you alot more room over the truck units for the frame. Also running an electric fan will let you lower the motor.

We've talked a fair bit before, while we were building this thing. We tried the truck manifolds, Vette manifolds, and GTO manifolds...and they no workie. The F-body ones are all that we found that would even fit between the frame rails.

Lol, no problem. I have only put a few hundred miles on it, and it had a vac leak during most of that. The owner has put 8-900 on it, but I don't think he checked it either. I'm certain from what little bit I have run it that it's doing better then my Scout with the LT1, and it gets high teens.
