1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme LQ4 + 4L80E swap

Car now has 58psi from the new pump. Neat bit of info I missed at first: the Racetronix RXP pump has an opposite polarity than the Walbro pump. I had to drop the tank again to swap out wires in the plug end. Oh, and don't forget to tighten up the outlet line to the sender in the tank. Had to drop the tank again to fix that mistake... Fires up and idles nicely now. Off to finish tuning!

Had a spring break project with the car snowball just a bit. I had a hiccup getting the 42lb marine injectors and stock fuel rail to work with the LSXrt and 102mm throttle-body. Ended up ordering a Holley fuel pressure regulator, fast rails and FIC 42lb injectors. Got it all back together and.... only 30psi fuel pressure! Put 6 gallons in the tank. No change. Cranked the FPR adjustment all the way down. No change. It will fire up and idle for a while, but eventually the fuel pressure will bleed down and it dies. No leaks to be found anywhere. If I so much as breath on the throttle it stutters and dies. All roads point to a bad fuel pump, so a new one from Racetronix is on the way. I really hate dropping the tank...
Anyway, things look nice under the hood.
Can't wait to get it all straightened out.
Also, while I was waiting for parts and what-not...I decided to get the suspension done. UMI tubular lower and adjustable upper control arms in the rear. BMR lower-control arm relocation bracket. QA1 anti-hop relocation on top (not a fan of this, will probably go back to normal poly bushing in the stock location). UMI drag race sway bar. QA1 14-130 coil-over springs in the stock spring location. QA1 single-adjustable shocks in the front and rear. Speedway tubular upper control arms in front and Moog 5658 springs. Brought the nose down about an inch so far. Also removed the front sway bar and set it aside. I'll re-install it if the handling gets too spooky.
And of course, while I had the front apart I found out the both brake calipers were rusty and leaking, the pads were almost down to the rivets and one of the hoses was cracked. So I did a complete brake refit and did the wheel bearings while I was at it.

Money. Rear coil-over kit is $850. Fronts are $650. This setup was fairly cheap (roll-bar wasn't though), coilsprings were $40 each and the shocks were $125 each. Maybe someday I will do the coil-overs...but for now I just wanted to lower the car a tad and get some adjust-ability in the shocks. Finally drove the car a bunch today and it rides really well and really loads up the tires out of the hole, and that's with the street settings on the shocks.

Tuning this thing has been a MAJOR pain in the ***. Still have a bit of a cruise-control effect at 35mph, but the car fires up, idles and doesn't die when coming to a stop anymore. And it accelerates really, really well now.
30mph to 103mph in 6.8 seconds spinning hard for 1.2 seconds at 60mph per yesterday's log. Take away the tire spin and it almost matches acceleration with a 2015 Z06 to 100. But the car is doing 5,500rpm in 3rd at that point and will run out of gear shortly after 120.

That house across the street has been abandoned for about three years. Some people just moved in two weeks ago, but I suspect that they are squatters, so it's not likely to get cleaned off any time soon...
Car is running great now, I just keep tweaking the VE table and the follower airflow and everything is working much better. Still wants to die if I'm heading uphill at 2mph and blip the throttle while turning the steering wheel. But that's a very specific set of circumstances.

I can't remember being over that way on Saturday, although I drive by that place at least 4 times a week in the afternoons and that Lowes is the one I go to all the time for what-nots. Sure it wasn't Friday? There are two other Cutlasses in the area, a white one driven by a black kid and a reddish brown one driven by some chick. My car is pretty unmistakable, but I'm pretty sure I was home all day Saturday and only went out really, really late to the Safeway across from the Fred Meyers.

Finally did some WOT tuning almost up to max speed/rpm at a roll race (I KNOW...I KNOW...). Went 30mph to 121mph in just under 10 seconds spending .6 seconds spinning hard on the 1-2 shift and .2 on the 2-3. Lambda was pretty close the whole way. I really need my new MT ET Street Rs to show up. I got one of two delivered today....also need to get some dyno time in...

Running the Northwest Drag Tour. Drove down to Woodburn, OR today and ran three times in 100+ degree heat. IATs were above 120 at one point! Car ran 11.922, 11.927, 11.934 with a best MPH of 118.12. My 60' wasn't that great at 1.8x, but it was consistent and didn't spin at all. I tried flooring it from idle to try to hit the tires harder but that screwed with the computer and it didn't go into PE and didn't add fuel like it should have. I think with the traction at the line it went into an area of the VE Map that wasn't tuned before, so I richened that up. I will see if that fixes it at Portland tomorrow evening. Car really needs a 4000+ stall converter. Maybe this winter I will get a triple clutch billet.

Not bad for a thread that sounded like a low-buck build..!! Good luck at portland today and keep up the good work.

Thanks! The car has kept me sane...and poor.
Today at Portland I had a 11.80, 11.75, 12.75(nevermind this) and an 11.78, all at about 118.4mph. The air was better, and I managed to get a 1.78 60'. But, the car simply won't launch any harder than that with the 3200 stall. Never broke the tires loose once, hooked hard and scooted! The new MT ET Street R tires are great!
Off to Bremerton in the morning for three more runs and then eliminations!
