Default Cd009 Trans

Hey all! I just bought a long block for my swapped into the s14 chassis. I was reading and doing my research and apparently, I can get an adapter to fit the ls into my nissan 350z transmission. This company make the adapter.

http://collinsadapters.com/index.php...ter-plate.html

Has any of you all done this before? The reason I go with this route is because I have the transmission and would like to save some cabbage by not getting the t56. My target goal is arnd 500 whp and nothing more.

I have not worked with this adapter but I will advise you of two things..you will get a lot more hits in the "conversions and hybrids" forum and it won't be the horsepower but the torque that might kill that transmission with a quickness. A 500WHP LS is likely going to produce 550+ TQ at the flywheel and I don't think that transmission would handle it very well. A stock-ish LS might be OK though. Have you researched the power handling capability of the transmission?

Good luck with your swap. Sounds like a fun project.

This is probably the best transmission for the 350z. It can handle a twin turbo z with up to 1 k hp with stock internal. Upgraded clutch of course . But than again, I haven't seen anyone using it yet or try it. The company stated that there's one Canadian that tried it and doing great but has not seen any facts.

Brand new ones cost about 1800 . A lot cheaper than the t56.

The 350Z 6 speed is NOT a strong trans at all. Not sure where you got your info, but the stock Z motors can kill one of those transmissions.

From what I see in the link you would need to buy the adapter, an LS bellhousing, pressure plate, slave cylinder and flywheel and a Z clutch. Then you have to cut the front off of your 6 speed to bolt them up. Your already looking at over $1K in materials. Why not try and sell your Z trans and pickup a T56. You can get a used one for $1500-$2000.

Kinda what I was thinking. What OP said about the trans /did/ however remind me of what many have said about the later model SUPRA 6-speeds. And in my Mustang days I've been SMOKED by a few Supras that definitely had north of 800HP and a 6 spd. I only know this as there was a version of it called the AX15 that came in some Jeeps. Nowhere near as strong in Jeep form though.

Ok so here is my understanding of the trans from research I had done back in my SR20 setup days (I could be mistaken this was years ago), the early gen CD009 transmissions are a joke. In stock form people were saying they destroyed synchros. The later gen version was upgraded and was handling some pretty insane HP/TQ in stock form. Again, could be totally wrong cause I cant say first hand I have much experience in the Z world but did a **** ton of research when my SR20 was setup for 600+hp.

As far as the adapter and setup, I have 0 experience so I can not chime in. I can say that I know a local guy with a 300zx and he used that company for his 2JZ-CD009 setup and pushing north of 800rwhp without an issue. Stock trans, twin disc clutch etc.

And just to comment on the Supra 6-speed, it is one of the best OEM transmissions available and thats why they come with a hefty price tag. The Getrag that Toyota made for the Supra is a stout setup especially given the time when it was produced.

OP's best source for this information is the folks that make the adapter I think. Have you contacted them with your exact transmission model/year and asked them what it is capable of/what it might need to live behind a stout LS?

I can agree on the CD009 trans being pretty solid. 03 04 Z's and G's had the earlier version that was complete garbage and ate synchros. 05+ came with the reworked version that is rock solid. I've got an 06 Z and did my research on the trans before buying because I knew the 03 04s had problems. It's too bad though cause I got the one with a good trans and the motor that burns oil instead

EDIT: Proof 1300whp stock CD009 Trans:

The 2nd Gen CDOO9 is a GREAT Transmission & Very solid, that's why this company is making this adapter, because there have been a lot of requests for it in many different swaps because of its durability.... Now the CD001, or 1st Gen tranny was a complete fail by Nissan, it had weak Synchros that broke or wore out very quickly at low HP.... So, Yes, thus is a good substitute for the T56.....
