Default LS6Yota - 89' Toyota Pickup LS Swap

Welcome Tech, I have pretty much completed the transplant, but have quite a few details still needing to be worked out. Bought the truck for $700 and spent about $3k on the swap, not to mention all the other stuff in the process.

89' Toyota Pickup SR5

Pretty clean for 223k

Fab'd some sliders

Originally planned for a TBI 350 swap.

Chevy 63s (1/2 ton rear leaf springs)

35" cheapos off CL

IFS got 86'd...

83' solid axle, 96' LX450 HP eLocker, Homebrew front hanger and shackles, RUFs (Rear leafs up front), U-bolt flip kit and Hy-Steer.

98' Tacoma eLocker installed in the rear.

Tired 3.0 V6, 4 speed auto w/ built in TC coming out, and my dad.

Tired TBI 350, 4L60E and Toy TC going in, and my dad.

Homebrew snorkel

Too much MN rust, so I decided to back half the truck, but still wanted leafs.

While I was fixing old mistakes, I decided to remake the front hanger and build a hybrid set of leafs, and run 3/4" hardware.

Hybrid (83' + 89') leafs, 6" shackles and 3/4" hardware.

The elephant in the room... LM7 in need of major repair.

LM7 bored over to 3.898

LS1 pistons w/ ARP rod bolts and Hastings rings.

LM7 crank on the left and LS1 "gun-drilled" crank on the right

799 heads disassembled, just cleaned up casting, no porting.

Iron block LS6, LM7 5.3L bored to 3.898, LS1 crank, LS1 pistons w/ ARP rod bolts, ARP studs, L33 cam, LS2 timing chain and ported LS6 oil pump

w/ 799 heads installed

It was fun while it lasted, but something don't last forever.

Cut off old SBC mounts, 2x3 .25 wall, 80's Volvo turbo mounts

4L80E clocking ring, heavily modified to use 5 of the 6 bolts.

Choose to use the 4L80E flex plate and spacer rather than the 5.3 curved flex plate and the crank support.

NP241 homebrew SYE kit, cut off Toyota yoke, and welded it to GM slip yoke.

Welded stud to output shaft to secure SY.

Siliconed the inside of the shaft to stop fluid from leaking down the shaft, and bolted everything down.

Top shaft is both Toyota shafts welded together and the bottom shaft is the GM full-size shaft with a GM yoke cut off on the axle side, and the Toyota yoke welded on.

NP241c clocked, front driveshaft mounted, rear driveshaft mounted, homebrew SYE, Toyota crossmember w/ GM mount, cheapo 3" summit muffler.

L99 thermostat and housing vs Ford Windstar thermostat and housing, was told by several Tech vets that the Windstar t-stat won't work, and you can clearly see why.

L99 thermostat in the Windstar housing

Windstar housing modified for L99 jiggle ball.

L99 thermostat fits, but is too large for recess in the Windstar housing.

Reduced the diameter of the thermostat to fit in inside the recession of the Windstar housing.

Truck Alt/PS support modified for L99 waterpump

5.3 block, L99 waterpump w/ truck accessories and tensioner, and 180* LS t-stat mounted inside the Windstar housing.

Homebrew York 210 bracket w/ serp pulley

Upper radiator hose, it's tight.

Lower radiator hose, also fairly tight.

Relocated Toyota fusebox to driver's side to clear room for the snorkel and OBA, and mounted the PCM as well as the standalone fusebox on the driver's side as well.

Truck harness disassembled, ready for a homebrew harness.

Homebrew harness.

99' Suburban 40gal fuel tank, Corvette regulator, Russell AN fittings and lines.

Rear disc conversion, JToutfitters brackets, 97' Blazer front calipers and pads, 91' C1500 rotors w/ hubs enlarged to 4.2", and new brake lines.

Lokar 4L80E flexible dipstick

GMT800 power steering cooler

GMT800 trans fluid cooler

AN high pressure power steering line.

02' Denali cluster w/ trans temp gauge (IPC)

Engine bay as of now, waiting on a few things to arrive in the mail.

Tail/brake lights to make it legal.

It's pretty tall, but it's all suspension lift and tires, there is no body lift or blocks.

Snorkel barely clears the garage door.

I still have a few things left to get sorted out such as...
- Radiator: Harrison aluminum radiator and dual speed cooling fan.
- Lighting: trailer converter for turn signals, LED light bar and reverse spot lights.
- Shocks: I need 12" shocks for the front, 14" will move to the rear, also need to fab bump stops.
- Bed: flat or utility bed w/ roll bar, tire carrier and an air tank.
- Bumpers: front bumper w/ winch and d-rings, rear bumper with drop hitch and d-rings.
- OBA: wire up York clutch, and plumb OBA setup

More to come.
