Default Lurker. Now I'm diving in with an LQ9

Short story, building an LQ9/T56 for an 86 El Camino. T56 is done, built by rkt56.com. Just got a low-mileage LQ9 yesterday and tore it down to a shortblock. Bores look great, everything is better than expected. I give the shortblock the OK for the build.

I'm shooting for 500-550 hp at the crank. Should I have the 317s ported or just go straight to the aftermarket? I'm not married to the cathedral ports, but many of my parts are for cathedrals and I also don't see the need to go LS3 at these power levels.

I already have: LS6 manifold, Fast fuel rails, Walbro 255 pump (or an Aeromotive A1000 if I want to go nuts), ECM and wiring from the donor, Spec clutch and aluminum flywheel.

Need recommendations on heads/compression, cam/valvetrain, which headers for the swap
