Default 1965 Turbo 5.3 C20 Flatbed Build

I thought now that this project is nearing completion, I would post up some pics that I took along the way. I bought this truck from a local air conditioning shop that bought the truck new in 1965. After using it on the farm for a month and loosing in a "****'s & giggle's" drag race to another beater truck, it was time to start a new life. I had every intention on doing a simple 5.3 swap in N/A form but like always, things progressed and grew. This is my first build and learned a lot along the way.

2003 5.3, stock intake, cleaned up 706 heads, a comp cam a guy had laying around, stock cast S480, deka 80's, microsquirt, PTC TH350 and their convertor.

The Truck 1965 C20 Stake Bed

The tear down began...

Finally after cleaning this thing up, new parts could go back in. I learned here that there is a difference in C10 and C20 parts. Took about 3 weeks to do but after some careful machining, I was able to blend the half and three quarter ton parts together.

I didn't get a lot of picture of the rear for some reason but I stuck with the stock trailing arm suspension and ditched the Eaton HO72 full floater for a 12 bolt out of a '67 c10. It has Wilwood disc brakes, moser axles, Yukon posi, and richmond 4.10 gears. I also had Dynotec build me a custom 5" aluminum one piece drive shaft.

Finally back together after a year

Short dyno clip while it was getting tuned at Westech Performance in Mira Loma, CA

After all was said and done, the truck came in weighing at 3860 lbs. Was 4100 when I started. Not a huge savings but I'll take it.

Thanks for looking

Finally, something people can legitimately call a "sleeper".

Sweet truck. For both work and play.

Now paint it dead rat flat black.

Thanks man. This thing has layer after layer of rattle can paint jobs. I have been hitting it with 180 grit on a DA and "aging" it if you will. I kinda of like how its turning out so next stop is to paint the farm logo on the doors and clear the truck. For now anyways

The "aged" multilayer paint and a farm logo is better than matte black anyways.

Keep us updated whatever you choose to do.
