What would be the best low budget evap system to retrofit?
I currently have a 2004 5.3 block with an LS1 set-up on top including PVC in my 71 camaro.
I was thinking about putting an evap system on it to eliminate the fuel smell when parked. Currently I am just using one of those 4th gen filters attached to the tank to vent it.
But I currently have the emission stuff deleted on my PCM so I am looking for something lower tech, but current enough to do the job.
So I was thinking about the 88-92 TPI set-up, which is the same emission stuff they used on the TBI models too.
I still have one of those GM shop manuals for a 89 camaro handy at home. I could get most of the info from that.
It should work correct? I could run the line to the side of the LS1 throttle body to pull the fumes from the charcoal canister / purge valve and recycle through the combustion process?
Any ideas? or a better way to do it? I'm not a big fan of smelling fuel when the car is parked in the garage or smelling like fuel in general.

Thanks everyone, I have heard of the braided line issues with smell. My old set-up looked like this. You can see the vent I attached from a 4th gen camaro.
I'm installing a spectre tank and was going to chop the lines off where the square is and install my corvette filter / regulator there. Then the only steel braided line coming from the tank will be the single one going to the stock hard line.
But the car doesn't have a real evap system, and I was wanting to put something like that on the car and figured 3rd gen fbody would be a good start for the parts to do it.
But I may just install that 4th gen vent thingy to the new tank like my old set-up and call it a day

I'm not sure yet, I thought about changing the purge solenoid function to work on my computer. But I don't know what else would be affected by doing so.
The other option your talking about, isn't that an old school way? Using vacuum solenoid to purge the charcoal canister? That would be the easiest, what vehicles do those set-up come on? Pre-85 stuff?
But I still may just leave that 4th gen vent thingy on and get a vented fuel cap and call it a day. I just figured since I have a hi-tech engine in my car and all updated, I don't want my car smelling like an old car (fuel) when it's parked. And it hasn't been that bad, but it's noticeable. I already have access to the undercarriage and tank is still out, I figured adding evap would be easy, beneficial and not a lot of added cost.
Here's my new tank, I mounted the filter directly to the tank with a bracket I welded to the tank. The only steel braided lines involved is a single one to the stock hard line. And it's a good quality line I got from jegs a while back, morso I think.

eh, I maybe over thinking this. That 4th gen vent valve will be fine with a sealed fuel cap wouldn't it?
That should be enough to purge the tank, even if there is any fuel smells it wasn't that bad.

I have the 4th gen setup. I have also used the 3rd gen filter/vent setup. Regardless of the setup type if you tie it to the intake the system will purge when necessary. On the filter/vent setup I placed the pressure valve in line before the filter. This will keep the tank under 1lb pressure and just open when it needs to to vent. This took care of the fumes but make sure you have a good cap that will hold the pressure.
