second gen LS preference 5.3 or 5.7 or 6.0 for a budget build
Hello,
I just joined the site today and i just wanted your input from the wise folk who have done one of these conversions.
I have a second gen camaro, to which, i like to transplant a LS1 motor. There are many versions of LS1 motor (5.3, 5.7, 6.0). What i like to know, based on experience, which is most trouble free and cost effective (comparative) way to do it. I am only looking at engine specifically and irrespective of engine, trans is going to be a manual (T56).
I am not looking at large hp. I am happy with stock motor and at the most, i would like 350 hp (long tube headers and some tune). I goal is to get 20 miles a gallon or more and drive it daily.
From my research, on this website, 5.3 L is cheap (~$800) but one has to change the oil pan, intake (LS1 or LS6), change the pulleys etc., which just increase the cost to $1800. On the other hand one could just get a 5.7L from a camaro or trans am, (~$1500) and save few $$$ by just using the parts, which will fit the 78 camaro. I left the fuel system out because, it going to cost the same irrespective of engine. The truck engine is a option but i still have to change stuff. So what is the best approach to take for a budget build. So am i thinking ok ??? any input is going to be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
