Default Dakota Digital Engine Coolant Temp

I have the Dakota Digital supplied Engine coolant temp sensor installed and running directly to the VHX box. It had been reading very well, on initial startup, and for a quick drive around the block.

Now when I turn the key to the on position the needle just shots over all the way to the max on the coolant temp gauge. Not sure what the heck is going on here and why this is the case, but it is pretty hard to get an accurate reading like this. Anyone have any suggestions?

If the reading is max'd out your wires are likely shorted.
