Built a jig to hold my third member out of some more scrap. Works pretty good, I'd hate to do one without it. Also made a spanner wrench because a new one costs way too much.
Set the backlash at .007 and finally got a pattern I think looks good. I had forgotten how tedious it could be.
Back on it's own four wheels. I made some stands out of 2x4 so I could get underneath and check pinion angle while it's at ride height with all the weight on the tires. The ride height ended up within a 1/4 inch of where it was before.
I still have to weld the perches to the housing once I get the pinion angle set. Then I have to build a new shock cross member. It looks like the top of the shocks is going to end up in the trunk once I stand them up straighter.
I was able to make it to the track and it hooked good and went straight but my 60' times are terrible. It was an 1/8th mile event and the car went consistent low 6.90's at 115 ish. 60' times were slow at 2.2.

I have red/cream on my 4 door - a finishing touch I did that you might like to consider is using the BelAir paint dividers on the rear quarter panels (really makes it look like the paint job belongs on the car).

Thanks for the kind words, I've been meaning to get those rear dividers but just haven't done it yet.
Haven't posted an update in a while. Last year was tough on the old girl.
I found out the hard way that too much pressure will kill the pump on a 4L80E. I figured more was better...… anything over 200 and you're on borrowed time. Mine was hitting 230 ish and broke the pump at the drag strip
Other then the pump there wasn't any other damage. While I had it out I added a Jakes D3 brake just for giggles.
We drove the car to Cruisin' the Coast again and had a ball. It's about 700 miles round trip from here and the car does really well on the highway.
Then in December I went back to the track and leaned on it a little hard. I think the Chinese studs were the issue to be honest, when I put the motor together back in 2016 they were supposed to be the ****. Well I had been sneaking up on the hot tune and it was making great power then …...oops
Pumped a bunch of water in the crankcase and took out #4 main. Rod bearings were fine but had to turn the mains .010
My parents have been having some health issues that have kept me from working on it but they're doing better now and I'm getting some things done. I welded the head up and had it decked so it's good to go only had to take .007 off so I had them take the same off the other one to keep them even. Spent the money and put ARP studs in it and new LS9 head gaskets.
The Muscle car pan hung too low so I'm taking the time to fix it before it goes back in. Measure and cut this much off it.
I measured the capacity of it and it's a bit more than 1/2 a quart so not bad. Mocked up the pickup and took off 5/8" then made my own kick out pan with scrap aluminum I had laying around. It turned out pretty good, finished it yesterday.
Going to add a catch can and related fittings before I put it back in, will weld a -10 in the valley cover and a -8 in each valve cover and run them to a catch can. Should have that done this weekend then it goes back in, I've been missing her. My old Camaro is only a 13 second car and it seems extra slow now after driving my 55 for a while.
Now it's the right color to back into a 55 Chevy !! Got my AN bung and baffle in the valley cover along with one in each valve cover. Hope to have it back in and running Saturday.
It was Africa HOT here in Southeast Texas on Saturday so I didn't get a full day in on Sat. We've actually had some rain yesterday and today and the cooler weather has been nice. Starting to come together.
I'm pretty sure I was losing some drive pressure on the turbo due to leakage, had some wire melted. Worked on the flange with a file and found out just how un-flat it is....
