Well, summer is almost over here in Texas, so I spent a little time recently on the truck. Got the engine to run and idle correctly now. Replaced the fuel pump since I was not getting the correct pressure needed. I have not put a gauge on it yet to check it. Ended up replacing the IAC to get it to idle correctly. It now runs and drives, I took it around the block last night and it does not want to shift. I need to figure out what is up with that.

This past weekend, I took it to a show called C10's in the Park. Trailered it up there but drove it into the park. It was before I had the idle fixed, but none the less I drove it into the show. First time in 17 years that I drove it! Here is a picture someone took and shared on FB.

Before the show in the park, I redid the headlight mounts. Had the brackets powder coated satin black and I blasted and repainted the buckets with s stainless steel color. I used all new hardware and retaining rings. Those turned out to be the nicest parts on the truck.

Karl good strides man! I heard C10's in the park was a great show with over 700 trucks in attendance. Any fall/winter plans for the truck?

Make sure your transmission plug is correct at the transmission. This has caused issues before. It will fit in the socket either way, just not plug in all the way if it's wrong....

Plan right now is to get it to shift properly, finish up the rear suspension, shocks and brace up the PHB mounts. Finish the wiring for the front lights and get it street worthy. From there, I just plan to drive it when the weather is decent...

Well 16 months have gone by since I made that quote. Like they say, Plan you work, Work your plan, Prepare for your plan to go to $hit. Well, it did along with many other things in my life...

Long story short, I have not done anything to the truck. I am going to swap the trans and give up on making this work with the TH350 I had, something is wrong with it and I am just frustrated. I scored a good deal on a 6.0/4l80e combo. So I am going to swap in the 80e for now while I decide what to do with the 6.0. I plan to clean it up and put a HD2 shift kit in it while its out. Once that is done, then its back to the items I said I would work on back in September of 2017.

I just sold a swap I did that had a th350

and I think unless you have really long gears it's just not feasible. with a 275/60-15 and 3:73 gears it was doing like 2700 rpm at 55mph

80e is always smart money

Thanks Doug, I watched your build on youtube of the white C10 and your Blue C10 too.

Just after Christmas I picked up a 2004 2500HD with most of a 6.0 & 4L80e for $500 with a clear title. I say most of the 6.0 as some meth head pulled the intake and TB by cutting the harness and the fuel line that goes over the top of the intake, but left the injectors and the two rails, still connected to the supply line from the tank. The harness is all there, but 90% of the wires have been cut. That's OK with me, I have 2 full extra harnesses and a few intakes. I pulled the engine/trans as one piece, kept the driveshaft, both door mirrors, the steering box and the hydroboost unit. I have an '06 Duramax with a leaking hydroboost unit, so I will rebuild this one with new seals and swap those out over a free weekend. I will then rebuild the one from my '06 and use it on an up coming squarebody project. I also kept the driver's seat to repair my '06 seat.

I sold one of the wheels/tires from the truck to a buddy that needed a spare for $25, then sold the rest of the truck to my oldest boy and his buddy for $100, they where going to part it out. I had to get rid of it because the city gave me a warning and 10 days to get rid of it off my property because I was in violation of a city code. Those two asses then posted it on FB marketplace and sold what was left to a dude for $500. I'm not mad, just wish I had the time to post it and deal with people to part it out. So, out of my pocket I have into the 6.0&4l80e for a total of $375.

I could probably sell the 6.0 for $500-$750 around here if I put on an intake and TB. Then I would have a free trans and money for a HD2 shift kit... I will put the 6.0 on the stand for now and look at the bottom end and under the valve covers to asses its condition before I decide what to do.

Glad to see you back at it too, I haven't been on here in a while and am just getting caught up. A year ago or so you asked me where I'm from in Texas and I saw I never answered, had some health issues etc and am just now getting back in the swing of things( it's hell getting old!!), I live between Goldthwaite and Brownwood Texas in the Hill Country. I really enjoyed the times I stayed in Longview, I worked at Martin Lake on various projects over the years. Good Town and nice folks there. The Catfish King still open?

You are not far from my place just outside of Fredericksburg. We have a family farm down there about 5 miles from Luckenbach. The Catfish King on Mobberly is open it is just across the street from work, but the main one that was up on Lake of the Pines is closed now. If you worked at Martin Lake, and stayed in Longview, do you remember the one company with the large dome shaped buildings? That was called LeTourneau, but now we are owned by Komatsu, that is were I work.

This truck was my Grandfather's and spent most of its life on the farm till I turned 16...seems like forever ago...

I remember the LeTourneau building they also had a Tech school if I remember correctly. Wasn't Letourneau also teamed with Westinghouse on some BIG dirt moving equipment? Bill

Yes, LeTourneau was paired with Westinghouse years ago. The tech school is now a premier Christian Poly-technical University here in Longview. Just right across the street from us.

Got sometime last week to rearrange my storage/work space. I split the engine/trans so that I could get the engine on a stand to do an inspection. Removed the oil pan, and to my surprise it is a Gen4 engine. Now I have fantasies of 1000hp stupid power turbo builds....

That's all for now...

Agreed. Maybe he meant he had the later Gen IV style rods, which came out long before the actual Gen IV engines. But the reluctor defines the engine as Gen III as you noticed.

Well, I am back on this thing. Been a long time to get here. I had life issues that needed my attention before this project. Yes, it is a Gen3 engine, but has the gen4 rods all factory stock parts. I have got it all cleaned up and going back together now. Found out last night my torque wrench is junk and nearly broke a head bolt when it was only set to 30 ftlbs. So, new wrench is needed to put the heads back on.

Here is a pic of the engine right after putting on the pan, before trying to put on the heads.
