05 GMC 2500 purchased for engine
Hello,
I hope I am starting this thread in the right spot. I just viewed and purchased a 2005 GMC 2500 with a 6.0 liter. The truck body is beat up pretty bad. The engine runs well though. I want to pull the engine to put in my 65 Impala. I am getting the whole truck tomorrow. The wife says I only have a couple days with the junky truck in the driveway. Please give me some pointers. I will take the engine, tranny (RWD), ECM. Anything else I should keep? Any and all advice appreciated.

Take out EVERY wire harness attached to the engine, plus any component that is connected to that harness. It will be obvious what not to save, but in doubt, save it!
Especially the gas pedal, as said above.

Easiest thing to do is get everything and have a custom harness made. Makes wiring everything up so much simpler and the connections would be labeled. No worries about old wires and where in the hell does this wire go...we"ll just kill this wire as I don't know where it's goes or it's function. Custom wiring harness will set you back 500. I bought a 01 2500 and got everything. Cost was 300 for the truck and looked at the harness after E pulled everything. To many old wires for me to trace down and find what they should run.

OK, just checked my 05 Silverado 2500 6.0. It has a DBW throttle body, so regardless you will need the pedal, harness, and control box for that.
You can have a custom harness made for the Engine/Trans like suggested, there are a few companies such as SpearTech who are reasonably priced.

Take every wire connected to the engine and get the fuse box and wires connected to fuse box.
Get the pedal, pedal harness and black box the pedal harness connects to.
Keep radiator, and any other cooling parts that go with it.
You can part out that truck and make some money back.
The cluster if working is easily $100
