L83/6l80e 4WD to 2WD ?s/info
I picked up an L83 for a good price. I'm swapping into a 71 nova. I'm having a hard time finding a 2WD trans. Are most of these L83/6l80 swaps using converted 4WD transmissions? To convert one do you just have to swap the tail housing?

I posted on this prior. A search would reveal.
Trans has to be unstacked. But not as daunting as it sounds. I paid about $800 to swap from 4WD to 2WD. trans shop located a used output shaft, sold off my 4WD output shaft (2WD is longer at the tail). And also located rear tailshaft housing.
Evaluated clutches and steels, replaced parts and resealed (new seals) for $800 net.
I watched a pro take it apart. It took 20 minutes including looking at the clutch / steel parts. Crazy fast. Goes together just about as fast, I think.
There are youtube videos about disassembly of 6L80. Search. I remember seeing a thread on pirate4x4. Hardest part are dealing with the massive locking snap rings.
If you buy an early one, upgrade the front pump for the seals. I also added a sonnax line booster kit for the heck of it.
Also, get the 2WD truck slip yoke from a 6L80 application and not TH400. The 6L80 is much longer adjacent to the splines and accommodate the rear 6L80 seal boot. I posted on this, too.

6l80 2x4 differences behind lv1 or l83
I just purchased a l83 without tranny an looking online for one can only find 9ne cheap enough thats got the 2x4 slip yoke salvage yard claims it from a 2014 4.3 lv1 an the part checker says it won't fit my l83 iam sure programing is different but bell housing an tail same for all 2x4 v6 v8 but does have either 258mm or 300mm converter iam assuming smaller one higher stall for v6 app will it work with programming behind l83?

The 4.3 version is the lighter duty model. In a 4L60E the input shaft is 298mm and the V8 is 300mm. I would imagine that this carried forward. To be sure check the torque converter input size, or look up the 4.3 input on the 6L80e.
