Anyone wanting a serious upgrade in flow capability from the stock manifolds (any of them) or the Hooker cast -- look no further than these ---- https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Tru-Ram-LS1-Exhaust-Manifolds-Unpolished,53710.html?sku=9300303&utm_medium=CSEGo ogle&utm_source=CSE&utm_campaign=CSEGOOGLE&gclid=E AIaIQobChMIhPz624ex3AIVEj0MCh3yNwV4EAQYAiABEgIhN_D _BwE

Bigger primaries, full 3" 'collectors', stainless - so they'll stay reasonable looking without coating (although I ceramic coated anyhow), and MUCH easier routing of the head pipes as all you'll need is a 90 degree elbow to turn them back since they exit straight out the bottom. You will have to finagle the steering shaft a bit - but it may require finagling to matter what you do. This is on a 240 application -- I believe there's a bit more room on 700/900, but that's a guess on my part.

What's this? Speedway has one-upped Holley/Hooker? Those look nice, and would fool anyone into thinking they were stock!

Speedway makes some good stuff in house or with their branding on it. Very competitive prices as well. +1 for Speedway.

Let's face it -- the 'uneducated' aren't interested. Hell, about 80% of people at shows and cruise-ins walk right past the Volvo on their way from the Mach I on one side of me to the 396 Chevelle on the other side of me.....

Thus the whole reasoning behind the sleeper accountant Volvo. No one suspects the Volvo!

The LS3 center-dump manifolds won't work with the STS mounts. They'll physically mount, but the inner edge of the flange sits in the little nook between the pedestal and the engine side of the mount - you wouldn't be able to attach a pipe to them. They'd work if you cut the flange off and rotated it 90 degrees... but once you're doing that kind of modification, a lot of things will work, heh.

Maybe for a 240. IDK

But for a 7/9 the STS w/ LS3 center dump works for the passenger side.

Quick update. I'm plagarizing some of Michael's build -I'm using the same custom radiator that he had spec'd from Howe, and that should be landing at STS this week, if it hasn't already. Scott at STS and I have had a couple of quick chats, and hes ready for me to buy the heads/cam.

I reached out to some of the vendors that were recommended to me by some folks here and a couple of other places. The only folks that returned my calls/emails were Trick Flow. They recommended their "515 hp" kit because of the fairly restrictive Hooker block hugger manifolds I'll be using: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/t...make/chevrolet .
He described the cam with a very slight lope, but certainly not lumpy. I had originally looked at their "485 hp" kit, as I didn't think I'd need as aggressive of a cam.

I'm back at work these days, after 8 weeks of medical leave, so I don't have quite the time I did before. I do need to talk to Scott and come up with next steps beyond just the head/cam. I know he's still working on another client car in front of me, but I don't know the schedule for completion.

Keep in mind Tom - heads/cam/springs all aimed at moving more air through that “air pump” engine. If you don’t tend to the exhaust side as well, you’re not gonna be nearly as effective as you could. Most use the testrictive Hookers and “y” into a single 3” pipe. A better flowing manifold andd a set of 2.5” duals all the way back will really wake up the combo. Ok - I’ve beat that horse enough.

Understood...all too well. I have a feeling there will be some iterative things on this car since I'm doing the "bought not built" approach, exhaust design being one of them. I'd like to end up with something like you describe - 2.5" all the way back with an H-pipe to equalize pulses. I know I'll start with the 2-into-1 Y pipe to start with, as that's the standard setup from STS. I'll talk to Scott about using the Speedway manifolds vs the Hookers, though. That shouldn't deviate much from their normal setup.

Those will certainly free up the Hooker bottleneck -- however, they'll require a bit of steering shaft work. It's easy to do - I'm sure Scott can figure it out.
