350 in a new celica? Possible?
Not a LS1 but a old school V8.I have a 283 from a 63Impala and want to build the motor and put it in something.I may build a 350 or 327 but I was thinking what would be good to drop it in.Can a newer celica be converted to rear wheel drive and hold a V8?What would have to be done?I'm kicking around the idea of a 300Z or 240SX.I thought of the celica today.I thought it would be cool that no one would expect something small and light like that to have some power. If not what do you guys think?

Of course it can. The real question is how expensive or difficult will it be?
And the answer is very and very very. I agree with John B.: you should consider something a little less expensive and difficult.
A car that was originally rear-wheel drive makes the swap much easier (from very very difficult to just difficult). Using a vehicle that was originally a V8 (or had an option for a V8) will help too. Ordinarily big American iron is a better choice for these reasons ... but there are plenty of cars out there that would be a better choice than a Celica.
Other considerations include the luxury items. Is working AC important to you? Heat? Power steering? Are you going to use a manual or automatic transmission? How much foot room do you require for the driver? Are you going to keep the rear seat?
A bigger car makes all of those things easier.
But the main thing is: have fun with it! <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
